Reminds me of this News story from a while back, where a shopper found Hula Hoops in her Aldi own brand snacks -

blacklabrador I can remember a similar story about a guy who ordered his shopping from Waitrose but he was raging that he got a breaded product that had the Aldi packaging, what I loved best about the story that he was bragging about paying the extra for the product.

blacklabrador I used to buy the Aldi hoops, but they went up in price after the story broke - they got too popular so Aldi hiked their prices up

That's hilarious I've had this debate with my mum who was convinced that this didn't happen. It maybe made in the same factory but thatsx just who's got the contract according to her.

Kellogg’s use to make Tesco’s cornflakes, I don’t know if they still do though. Years ago in the 90s there was full disclosure of who made what. There’s only so many factories in the country so they will be making for others just with different recipes

Johnny Walkers apparently bottles Asda Red label whiskey, and it's selling for £24.50 a litre.

I think its often the case that a manufacturer/factory makes products for supermarket own labels and actual main brands. I know Kellogs state they don't make cereal for anyone else although they may have done in the past. I used to work for a power tool importer and on the certification you could see a mixture of brands all buying the same powertool from the same Chinese manufacturer. It was funny as when you looked at the marketing for the various brands it was all different. A German company might have 'superior German engineering' etc and yet it was just the same Chinese power tool. It's all about manipulating consumers using advertising and marketing to make them think they are getting something better. A recent taste test youtube video about Cream of Mushroom soup showed the M&S tinned soup had better ingredients, more mushroom and tasted much better than the Heinz version which was about 3x as much as the M&S version.

I tend to ignore brands nowadays and just focus on the product and value. I buy almost nothing from the big brands that spend huge amounts on marketing. Why do I want to pay extra just to pay for all the marketing and advertising staff salaries and profits?
