How a Single Bite of This Meal Can Give You Liver Cancer

Other

Some people assume that its healthier to eat some foods uncooked as this way you retain more of the nutrients and flavour

Examples can be a piece of steak , vegetables and fish , the latter more so in countries like Japan

But there is a dish in Thailand that is very popular with the locals that can actually cause liver cancer and lead to death

It is called koi pla , and it is believed more than 20,000 people there die from consuming this

It consists of raw minced fish, which you would think to be very healthy , if not a bit unsavoury to us

But the problem isn't the raw fish itself, it is what is inside it , that being parasites , or parasitic flatworms to be precise

These are abundant in fresh water fish in the Mekong region, and these are the danger

I doubt any Thai restaurants here would have this on their menu as it is only served locally in Thailand

But if you are on holiday there it is something you need to be aware of , especially if you like to try the street food

Nothing less appealling to me than raw fish so I suppose I'm ok in that corner. Image

Tried sushi and didn't like the taste and it gave me food poisoning so won't be trying it again. Yes cooking can destroy some nutrients but it can also kill any hidden parasites so its a win for cooking for me.

BonzoBanana The japanese must be immune to parasites with the amount of raw fish they consume , but i agree, cooked is best

telmel Out of curiosity I just googled Japan cancer rates vs the rest of the world and a statistic came up that Japan's stomach cancer rates is 4x that of the UK. However thinking about that irradiated zone and the amount of radiation some of their fish has absorbed that could be a factor. Some countries banned fish from Japan when that tsunami damaged that nuclear reactor.

BonzoBanana Wow, thats shocking , i don't think fish is as good for you now as it used to be anyway , with plastics and other pollutants like mercury in the oceans now being absorbed by marine life and even worse, radiation as you mentioned in Japan

If it was raw fish then the Japanese wouldn't eat sushi... That article. 🙄

Of course it's the bacteria/worms in it.

Anyway, that doesn't even look appetizing. 🤮
