This Site Can't Be Trusted Any More - Downvote Button Needed before It Collapses

Other

More and more fake deals on this website - so many now that it's hardly worth looking at. It's just becoming a sales pitch for sellers, and a means of earning money for posters posting non-deals.

Worse than that - some of these fake deals are conning genuine people who can't afford the loss.

Hot UK Deals gets round this by allowing users to vote both ways. This website only allows upvotes, so it's completely fixed.

I suggest this site brings a downvote facility in quickly before it loses all credibility and collapses. Meanwhile, genuine users might want to look elsewhere for bargains - most of the so-called bargains here are now fake.

It could be said that your comment is from a disinterested member (5 deals in nearly a year and little else) but feel qualified to tell everyone else what a failure it is! Are you from a rival site, it certainly sounds that way?

Downvotes would be ineffectual and bring nothing good to the site.

Someone suggested on the other topic (another new 4 month member who has posted next to nothing), various remedies but you both fail to see that there is no perfect way of running a site like this and any failings are generally due to members. Many abuse and use the site but why punish those who use it sensibly?

Someone suggested no points for a deal that gets less than four up votes or more than 10 down votes. That would cause massive problems if it was a genuine deal and people did not know if they were going to get their points or not. Sure fire way of killing the site as people just wouldn't bother posting any longer. I could say lots more but tbh I can't afford the time or energy.

And you say this why what’s not a deal to you could be to others. For example I could post a pair of work trousers for women and members on this site have been looking everywhere without luck, then my post appears and it helps them, girls starting high school but bigger then average they would need smart tailored trousers. So just because you don’t like the deal others may just stroll along

Morning doct 🙂

Thank you for your feedback and sorry to hear you feel that way about LD.

We've often considered having an ability to down vote a deal but have always ended up concluding that we prefer having likes and instead encouraging people to leave a comment if they feel the deal isn't good value.

The idea behind asking people to comment is to avoid anonymous, unsubstantiated down votes - a complaint we heard from people using similar platforms, such as hotukdeals. We felt a comment that articulated the point e.g. "This isn't a good deal, it's available at Argos for £10 less [link]" or "The RRP looks made up, it was half the price 10 days ago" is far more valuable. And the hope is that if people comment then other members will see and perhaps decide to withhold their like.

We are of course always still open to feedback on this approach and we'll always take steer from the community as to how Latest Deals should work.

I think a change in the pipeline - to experiment with removing points for liking posts - should help improve things quite a bit. I know we have some passionate members on this particular subject but I'd kindly ask that this post stays on topic - about introducing a down vote option - as opposed to the likes for points stuff (where change is coming, I promise 😅)

I hope that helps provide a bit more context but I'd be keen to hear any further thoughts or feedback you may have 👍

I've just spotted this similar topic https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/chat/website-improvements and so I'm going to lock this one and encourage conversation to continue in the other one. Anyone wanting to respond please do so over there. Thanks! 🙂
