Snowflake Generation

In the News

This may offend some people (ironically) but does anyone else genuinely fear for the future due to the ’snowflake generation’ uprise?

I say this as a very popular YouTuber is forced to quit based on comedy videos she made 10 years ago that have somehow offended people now even though she deleted the videos many years ago - an example was that she made a video called “what men want” and “what women want” and apparently this has offended people now because you can’t stereotype gender - 10 years ago, a lot of people found this hilarious and no one was offended.

I fear more for people who don’t accept change.

Not all change is good change and therefore shouldn’t all be accepted.. if it carries on the way it is, it’s only a matter of time before you can’t have males and female perfumes or clothes, because it’s considered discrimination - everything will have to be classed as unisex.

Getsome well maybe a tad dramatic but bad change - everything Hitler did 🤔 which I’m sure a lot of people at the time agreed with and thought it was a positive thing...

good change - same sex marriage becoming legal

The world's gone nuts. I tried to enter a Cadbury comp on here to invent/name a chocolate bar. Pick three ingredients from list and name. My choice similar to - caramelised ginger nut, toffee ginger nut, and got "Unfortunately you can’t use that name! It might be a little too long or contain inappropriate words or a symbol. Have another go"…caramelised spicy nut, toffee spicy nut were both accepted! but the spice used WAS ginger not cinnamon/sea salt/black pepper.

Snowflakes AKA the "entitled generation " . Supposedly the most educated generation to date ? ! A shame common sense isn't on the curriculum .

What they forget in their glee at posting things on Social media to impress their (make believe ) friends is that (even if deleted ) it stays there for ever .

When they grow up (if they ever do ) and gain a bit of wisdom and common sense they will realise they were just part of the mindless flock ( as any potential employer will ) .

Oh I agree - I hate the sense of entitlement. Expecting everything to be handed to them and expecting the world to be a lovely and fair place for everyone. I’m trying to raise my step son (16 next week) to understand the meaning of working hard for every penny and earning respect etc.

I know a person who identifies as non-binary. I have to admit when we met, it was a lot to take in but I found it all quite interesting in the end. Not once did they sit there complaining about the rest of us being male or female though. That YouTuber losing their income is ridiculous. I've ended up in arguments with the people you're describing and the big problem is half of them don't seem to know what they are fighting against.

Exactly my thoughts! I have no issue with anyone identifying as whatever they want or changing genders etc etc but i don’t understand the need for everything to be unisex just to make sure you don’t offend anyone and not being able to label something as ”Male” or “female“ - the only thing people can’t moan about is sanitary products for women, because men and transgender women dont physically need them - it’s like everything else is fair game!

As Golfforall says, it's all to do with being seen to be a part of a 'movement' irrespective of whether it has any merits.

I worry for my child as everyone is finding something that is offensive to them somewhere down the line and they get entertained as we slowly change names, songs, packaging etc it’s getting ridiculous

The generation that is commonly referred to as snowflakes are merely advocating for a more accepting society and being more understanding of others. The ones that seem to be upset by everything are the generations that are opposed to change and accepting of others.

So what is there to fear? A society where people are more accepted, no matter their gender/sexuality/race. Ooh, scary...

lornaae If it was all about acceptance, that's great. It's not though. I have interacted with these people. Their condescending and patronising attitude does not help their case. "It's ok to do that and it's not ok to do this". They throw about those bloody annoying Americanised phrases thinking it's their mission to attack people who are not shouting from the rooftops being self righteous. It's one thing combatting racism and another going round Twitter looking for people who have said the wrong thing or finding TV programmes from 20 years ago that made a comical remark about Nazis. They have this passive aggressive approach to arguments trying to mask the fact they just want somebody to correct. That will not change the world.

Dennab but very rarely are people actually hunting out tv programmes from 20 years ago, and when this does happen it's usually done by newspapers, not individuals?

lornaae You're not quite getting it, are you? 🤔

You want to ban everything that you don't agree with.

Free speech is exactly what it is, whether it's right or wrong.

TheChimp we need to say bleep bleep when referring anything snowflakes don't agree with because a complaint we will have 😂 weather it's from TV shows soap story lines they complain they don't think these things happen in real life.

The lgbt or what ever they call them self if they born a boy they are boys same girls when I here people say they gender neutral really gets my back up. I have no time for them go and complain to themselves

Ann1984 you said you don’t have an issue with the lgbt community right after saying you have an issue with people who identify as gender neutral - that means you have a problem with at least some of the lgbt community

lornaae But that's not what you've been saying.

The way I've taken your comments is that you want free speech, but not on certain things.

We all know that Katie Hopkins is a horrible woman, but we don't have the right to mute her odious commentary.

TheChimp but people have freedom to the extent that their freedom doesn‘t infringe on others. So I can go around as I please but if I hurt others I get a punishment, it’s the same with hate speech

lornaae just to jump in there... my issue is that I think there is obviously true and horrible racism for example that does hurt others, but things like using a monkey on a box of coco pops and people saying that’s offensive - monkeys are an actual animal, it’s not like they are made up to offend black people... or saying Jenna Marbles (the YouTuber) is racist and hurting people because she put some fake tan on 10 years ago and did an impression of nikki minaj - surely that means everyone who wears fake tan is offensive 🤔 I just think people are too easily offended and claim to be hurt by things that never bothered anyone 10 years ago 🤷🏻‍♀️

Getsome Exactly, the Persia military horsemen wore heels which influenced male fashions in the upper classes. Pink was considered too powerful for a girl to be seen in. It was better to dress her in a colour like blue to better reflect her gentle nature. Hatshepsut wore a beard.

Chevalier d'Éon dressed up as a man but was deemed to be female but later turned out to be a man. Just because you are placed in a box after you are born, doesn't mean you have to stay in that box and tick all the boxes of social acceptability.

What is the point of your life if you are just what everyone wants you to be and never dare to learn and become yourself...

sarahgreen15 The disgraced and jailed MP who brought up this Kellogg's thing said that it was racist because there was a monkey on Coco pops and white characters on Rice Krispies and basically saying that it was only because of the colour of the cereal.

But what she failed to point out is there's a monkey on the white Coco pops box also.
