Someone Stole My Mushrooms

Ask a Question

We've had heating installers in for the last few days and we've had to stay in a 'safe room'.

I had a box of Swizzles Giant Mushrooms in my kitchen where they were working.

I know how many mushrooms were in my box and now there's only half of them left.

Do you think that I should try to claim the 50 odd pence back from the company?

Your input would be appreciated 😉

Mushrooms I love everything mushrooms (before anyone asks that's not sarcasm I really do)

The money isn't much but they came in your home and stole something you should complain and check other things

Imnotcheap I reckon that I might take them to small claims court.

It might cost me £60+, but I want the equivalent to my mushroom loss plus costs.

You could start with complain to boss cheaper@TheChimp

No. Don't sweat the small stuff.

It's better to be swizzled than swindled.

TheChimp The time and stress involved in getting your 50p back (or not) isn't worth it.

When you get to the Pearly Gates, do you want Saint Peter to ask, "Is it true you wasted some of your short time on God's earth chasing 50p's worth of Giant Mushrooms?"

Johnny There is no god and I want the mushroom money back.

They might have even taken 60p worth.

TheChimp As you are clearly not sure how much they took, you have no case. You may even be mistaken,

Johnny Definitely not mistaken because I had a level amount of mushrooms in the tub, and after they went, there was a big gap in the middle.

TheChimp Just remember what I said 'Don't sweat the small stuff'.

Without concrete evidence such as CCTV footage, it is 'he said / she said'

If you write to the company, they will ask the employees who came to your home about it, who will deny it (if they have any sense, and don't want to get fired). If you do want to pursue it, ask for an apology from the company, not 50p. Pursuing 50p makes you look like an idiot. But quite frankly even if the company apologises for the sake of goodwill, it'll be meaningless. You're unlikely to use them again anyway. I'm sure you've got better things you could be doing with your time.

Johnny I get the feeling he's not actually after his 50p back 😉

I suggest you lock the remaining mushrooms in the safe room with you! I suggest you add extra to your claim, such as pain and suffering.

I think I would be more worried about what else they might have touched/taken. Have you checked the whole house, including your chocolate stash?

tumblespots That would be the wife's chocolate stash.

If there was any of that gone, there would be riots.

It's not nice when people come into your home and steal your things. You should be able to feel secure in your own home

TheChimp Did some more pop up overnight - they like the dark. Seriously, any more problems and are they nearly finished, the heating people not the mushrooms.

lilyflower All done now, so no more mushroom nicking.

Got the inspector coming out Monday.

I don't think he/she will pass the job tbh 😟

TheChimp Is it that bad? They have connected everything up and put radiators in. Please don't say it looks worse than what you had.

lilyflower The job has gone pretty well, but with a few of issues.

I wasn't happy with discarded face masks on the patio and them not asking to use the loo on day 1.

And they left 3 bags of concrete on the lawn which I had to get them to pick up today.

And they left all their crap blocking my garage which is going to be picked up whenever.

Another thing is that they've put the flue thing or whatever it is, blowing straight into my Sky dish. I'm going to have to have a word with the inspector when he comes on Monday.

TheChimp Bit of a messy job. They shouldn't have to be told to tidy up and take their rubbish away. Flue thing will be your boiler vent, it should have a guard around it if in reaching height. Why didn't they put it where the old one was. Importantly is the heating working? 🙂

lilyflower Yep, heating is working fine.

I've already burnt my leg on the radiator. The old system didn't really heat up properly.

Oil man came yesterday to top up the tank, so we'll be nice and toasty over the winter 😀

Leaving masks? That's disgusting. Bleed them dry. I know you talk about the mushrooms in jest but that's really not hygenic at all. I wouldn't want those dirty gits going near food of mine, coronavirus or not. As for the quality of work; I had a boiler fitted at a rented house once and no joke, it was a wall mounted unit and was fitted at an angle. It looked absolutely ridiculous. That was on top of the fact they appeared to punch a hole in the ceiling with a sledge hammer to pass pipes through. Some of these people just do not care.

And another thing....

They decided to have a play with my fake severed arm 😡

It was on the desk yesterday and it ended up on the floor on the other side of the room.
