Sonic Boom: People Woken by Loud Noise Which 'Shook Houses'

In the News

A loud sonic boom caused by RAF planes has woken people across north London and shaken houses.

People tweeted that a loud "explosion" had woken them up at around 04:20 GMT - with houses shaking and reports of police sirens straight after.

It is believed that loud noise was two RAF Typhoons launched from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire to an unresponsive aircraft.

I read this with interest because living in Lincolnshire we hear these all the time, it is commonplace.

I also thought that Londoners heard regular planes all the time but do appreciate that the Typhoons are considerably louder.

Had similar in my home town this week (near Newcastle) Heard 3 massive explosions late evening. Iv since heard it was apparently RAF practicing (unusual in my area) & we could expect to hear it again throughout the week but had no further instances thus far.

Not really into aircraft myself but I do love a Typhoon, I find them very exciting 😳

I heard this on the news and immediately thought it was an alien spacecraft that had been shot at by the RAF. Then again I have an overactive imagination. 😂 👽 👽 🤣

Lol your not alone. When we heard them in Newcastle the other night we immediately said 'prob chasing a UFO' 🤣 in our defence it is highly unusual for us to see or hear them apart from when Sunderland airshow is on.

To be honest, I wouldn't believe the official report. There's been a lot of weird stuff happening and rarely anyone is aware of it.

Yes, I heard it yesterday morning at 4.19am. I figured it was a sonic boom from a fighter jet when my phone didn't light up with breaking news alerts. While planes are very common in London you don't tend to hear sonic booms. Since Concorde was retired there haven't been any commercial planes that can break the sound barrier. Plus, Concorde had to be above a certain altitude before it was allowed to break the sound barrier. A similar thing happened in the summer and some people reported it caused damage to their property - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/07/14/mod-receives-four-compensation-claims-sonic-boom-damage/

What would constitute as breaking news alerts on your phone? Stabbings? Shootings? Acid attacks? Run overs?

All of those things kind of happen often in London.

I once saw the cops supposedly looking for someone at night outside our backyard and it never made to the news or other odd situations I've seen/heard at night. They can call this a "Sonic Boom" all they want and people will believe it.

It sounded like a very loud explosion in the distance. If it had been a bomb blast then the news would have spread quite fast.

Not if the government didn't want and would rather cover it up. Yeah, yeah, sounds like conspiracy, but it does happen.

Criminals these days have more power (weapons) than citizens who abide the law (no weapons, not even for self defense), just for example. ACR
