Do You like Spam ?
Ask a Question
When I was a kid I did have Spam because it was cheap but I can honestly say I dislike everything about it, the taste the texture, I can't recall the smell.
So I was really surprised to read that Waitrose’s described Spam as the ‘comeback king of 2022’, as cooks get creative turning it into fritters, sushi, kebabs and the classic Spamburger.
What are your views on Spam, I realise that it may be a Marmite situation, you either love of hate it.

And an explanation of the word spam in modern times
telmel I wondered how long it would take for someone to mention "Spam, Spam, Spam
beccatavender I can see it going into the charts B
Maybe someone will update it and create a rap spam ?
Oh my , there is one

But I know you like trivial facts did you know that in South Korea, Spam is a luxury food ?
Their annual lunar thanksgiving holiday, Chuseok, the holiday is celebrated by visiting family, paying respects to ancestors... and the giving and receiving of packaged cans of Spam.
beccatavender Thanks B, very interesting, i didn't know how revered it is there
We used to have it when i was younger, never really liked it unless i put lashings of HP on it and made a sandwich , also it wasn't bad fried
I loved Bacon grill as a child, not sure I have ever eaten spam, Maybe at school covered in batter. As Pumbaa would say, Slimy… yet satisfying.
We use spam in our house. My husband really enjoys it. I buy the supermarket own version rather than then branded one but we think it is brilliant. Spam and egg bagels, macaroni cheese with spam and sweetcorn, to name just two that we enjoy. We enjoy bacon grill too.
Shame on an upper-class shop like Waitrose considering selling working-class comfort food. I wouldn't eat it if you were paying me.
So strange you should bring up spam as a few weeks ago my son was raving about how much he liked it, even though I can't remember giving it to them much as kids. I decided he was pulling my leg. This week I saw spam fritters in Iceland for £2 per pack so bought some, texted daughter in law to ask if he had been serious and to my surprise she said, yes, he loves it. So I sent her a pic of the packet!
I used to like tinned ham and luncheon meat and also didn't mind corned beef that was ok but was never a fan of spam I remember it having a weird taste and smell. I've not had it since childhood but if I saw it cheap on clearance I would pick up some to try out of interest but its not the sort of thing that goes off and needs to be cleared cheaply. It's the sort of food that last years I think. Most of the processed meats like this are extremely unhealthy and my instincts tell me this would be very bad. Maybe not as bad and processed as hotdogs but still pretty awful.
Another Spam fan here. Usually when I mention this people tell me they hate it. Given that it has been around since the 1930's there must be plenty of people buying it though.
I bought it and it almost cost £2. Eating it out of the can may be fine for some, but I just couldn't.
I'll have to fry it next time.
This isn't like tuna that's perfectly edible from the tuna without adding anything to it.
Spam fritter from the chippy in crispy batter, I always have one as a side with my fish and chips..
