Spare Wheel or Foam Kit?
Ask a Question
What would prefer to have in the boot of your car to aid you when you get a puncture.
Would you prefer the foam kit which allows you to get to a garage and have the tyre replaced.
Or would you prefer the spare wheel to fit.
I prefer having an actual wheel so you haven’t then got to rush straight to a garage.
Spare wheel for me, but I see the benefits of the foam for perhaps older people or someone that is unable to jack their car up, crack the wheel nuts and change the wheel by themselves.
Was a bit dubious when I first bought the car (with runflats ) a couple of years ago . After getting a sidewall puncture earlier this year I was able to comfortably drive 5 miles to a tyre place with a completely flat tyre and get the tyre replaced .
No faffing about with the "repair foam " which only works on small punctures. Just drive on slowly (up to 40 mph for up to 50 miles ) to get the tyre repaired or replaced at a more convenient location.
In my case it was sidewall damage so required a replacement but had it been on the tread area it could have been repaired as any other tyre .
I always assumed runflats were far more expensive - but these days not much difference in price , if any .
Husband is a machanic and the spray puncture kits he always keeps in car it’s useful for people who don’t know how to change a wheel
