How Do You Stop Weeds Growing?

Other

Does anyone know how you stop weeds growing in your patio?

They grow in between my patio slabs. A few weeks ago i cut them all out and karchered the garden. Im now in the process of cutting them all again. I am getting as close to the root as i can with a knife but they still keep growing back πŸ™ˆ

Use something like this, Β£4.99 at Amazon. There will be other brands too.

Just be careful not to do it on a windy day and to avoid it going onto any plants or grass you want to keep! And keep the kids and pets off it until it's dry.

You need to try getting the root to stop them coming back. We had our garden done recently, he used weed killer, pressure washed it and he put sand in-between the slabs to stop the weeds coming through.

KirsteyJames Im the opossite. I love weeds as i have tortoises and thats their food 😍

But that fact also means im aware of what not to do in my garden to keep my weeds.

Salt will kill all weeds. Just go to your local supermarket and pick up a kg bag of table salt, its really cheap. Cut a hole in the corner and put an inch thick layer between your patio slabs, an opened corner makes it easy to pour between them. Your weeds will all die and it will take along time before they come back.

Trust me it works πŸ˜‰

Obviously you can't do it around plants but I have found that lots of salt watered into patio and gravel areas stops them growing for months.

Johnny I found it out by accident. Had a huge bag of salt from neighbour for icy footpath. Never used it and the bag started to rot away, it was dreadfully heavy so I got rid by tipping over all my gravel. Some time later I realised no weeds had grown, better still it is cheaper than weed killer and no harsh chemicals, though I doubt the slugs like it!

Most important thing is to make sure you get the root of the weeds out, there are some great little tools to do it now and make life much easier!

KirsteyJames I use any salt I have but find ordinary table salt from supermarket just as effective. 80p for a large bag that will last ages.

It will kill the grass too that's why I only advise using on patios and non earth areas where you want to grow things. You can get feed and weed products from most supermarkets and garden stores that will help your lawn.

Lynibis Ok thanks. I'll have to look for some kind of topical treatments for only weeds.

I bought a bottle of β€œextreme weed killerβ€œ from B&M, which was only about Β£2.99 for a big spray bottle so i expected it to be rubbish but it worked amazingly! Weeds stayed away fully for about 2 weeks, sprayed again and they stayed away for another month...

The salt treatment I describe above seems to keep mine at bay from 4 to 6 months!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I spent a couple of hours pouring salt in the patio cracks earlier so hopefully the weeds will stay away for a while.
