Have you had a tax refund before ?
Do you know how it works to apply for one online ?
If you are working and getting paid from someone else HMRC will refund you automatically but is case you are self employed you need to file yourself, it could be done over phone, by post or online.
I have, I was paying too much tax as I have two jobs so I rang the tax office and they changed my tax code and issued me a tax refund which was sent as a cheque in the post. I think I could've done this online via the government gateway but it was easier to sort it over the phone personally and they were really helpful to speak to and advise me on what to do
Never....It is not automatic. You need to call them...interesting when u pay less tax they are on u to pay it...but to give your money back, not important
My and my husband had a tax refund check several times, they just came in the post without us having to do anything.
I have had one every year for 4 years. I haven't had to do anything. The letter has just come in the post. The refunds are processed automatically, but you have to log into your gov gateway account to get the money transferred to your bank account, otherwise they will send you a cheque after about 2 months.
