Ten Brands That Disappeared over the past Decade - Which Ones Do You Miss?

I can’t say that I miss any of them really, as they had better competitors that I’d prefer to shop in. Poundworld might be the only one I would bring back, but I think it’s still around, just in another form (it’s just using another name)

Maplin was quite useful if you needed something in a hurry. I do miss Blockbusters and other video rental shops. I always enjoyed searching through the films. The others brands I didn't really use.

Barratts & BHS would be the shops that I would have used, more BHS really and I think it's a shame that it isn't still around. I always found them very reliable.

As far as shoes are concerned it's deplorable that we now have real cheapy shoe shops and very expensive ones but hardly anything in the middle which was where barratts came in.

Mr Tumblespots did find Maplin useful too.

It's a real worry when buying anything these days as you never know if the shop is about to close down and you either lose your money or have a real fight on your hands to try and get your money back. What a country! 🐞

I quite liked poundworld, they had some decent offers although seemed very similar to poundstretcher. While I love gadgets and tech I rarely bought much at Maplins as so expensive but did buy a few sale items. I didn't really use the other stores. I remember going into toys r us to browse but to leave the store they forced you to go through the checkouts which was very annoying a the bristol store as it was often difficult to get out. I think I might have done an online order to toys r us back in the gamecube days once or twice but that was about it.

My favourite shops that have disappeared are pretty much all gadget and electrical shops. I used to love shops like Rumbelows, Tandy, Laskys, Wigfalls and Comet, more for browsing than anything. Also used to like the 99p stores.

I didn’t even know some of them had shut down... didn’t know Staples had, just shows how much you notice them if there isn’t one near you! I was surprised when Poundworld went, what did they do differently to all the other pound shops? In my local area, One Below took over the Poundworld and it’s right next door to Poundland...

It‘s usually down to management and company acquisitions - for instance, the 99p shop got taken over by poundland, so they boosted their presence

Woolworths for me. When I moved into my 1st house, I bought so much stuff from there. I also liked C&A, which does exist all over Europe, just not in England. BHS is where I used to always buy my bathroom towels from in the sales.

Only thing that upset me with Poundworld is that i worked there. They told us we would never shut and we were best store making loads of money. Manager told slack staff shop was shutting they all went and got other jobs I only found out days before we were shutting that I didn't have another week at work. I ended up having to sign on unfortunately.

I loved Borders books when I was younger. The stationary range was amazing and I loved looking through all the books and deciding which one my mum was buying for me that month! We never had a pound world near us so that never bothered me, barely used blockbuster. I did like BHS for homeware.

I used to like BHS for xmas gift sets, only ever went in during December tho. Woolworths was a staple of my youth, used to go every Friday after school with our pocket money for the latest cassette or CD singles/albums we wanted.
