Do You Think Candles Ruin Your Decor?

Ask a Question

I burn candles in my house regularly and parts of my ceiling has become stained. Is it the candles? Does anyone else have this problem?

Is it discolouration, or smoke type stain? I am not good at doing it, but trimming the wick regularly and burning your candles right to the edge on the first burn is meant to really increase the quality & 'life' of your candle.

Can't see how this would happen unless you have them right up to your ceiling

I use candles a lot, have done for years, and I can't say I have ever had this issue with them.

I burn candles often, in fact this evening but I’ve only had smoke marks once when the candles were higher up on a shelf. My husband used washing up liquid and sponge to clean it off.

I can’t think what else it is. My other rooms are ok and I don’t burn candles in them.

julie781x I get that too and my candles are trimmed regularly and far from the ceiling. Might be the carbon/soot particles becoming airborne 🤷‍♀️

Paraffin candles can produce quite a lot of smoke and soot particles, so may be responsible. Beeswax or soy candles are much purer and emit fewer toxic chemicals. They are more expensive to buy though.

gerrykelly25 I agree, I think soy candles are great, but yes, expensive! But worth it, I think they tend to burn slightly longer.

I love burning a good candle. Is that caused by the candle? You don’t have a slow leak or anything that could of stained instead?
