What Do You Think Of Authors passing the writing baton on ?

Ask a Question

For example I loved J. R. R. Tolkien's books but thought his son's Christopher books from his notes a poor imitation, ditto loved Anne McCarthy author of Dragonriders of Pern, not so much her son Todds books.

So imagine my dismay that Jack Reacher author Lee Child passes writing baton to brother. These are a guilty pleasure.

Am I being unfair, can you think of any books that were improved?

I think it's two way traffic, how you transfer your knowledge and how people on other end receives it, it applies on writers and their heir, as well as writes and readers.

I may being be prejudiced as I admit I have only read one of their books, decided I didn't like it and that was it.

It may be that I just liking a particular character, so I am disappointed if they are missing, or a particular feel. I even had a hard time with the first non Rebus book by Ian Rankin πŸ™‚

I haven't seen any Lee Child's books, not written by him, so can't comment.

Not keen on the idea , the thing that made me roaring insanely with anger as a child was when a film or TV drama of a classic was nothing like the original...I suppose if these are clearly labelled as someone else's from original it's up to readers....

I glad I am not the only one, my husband refused to watch the remake of Get Carter, The Italian Job and many others πŸ˜€

I enjoyed Brian Herbert's continuation of his father's, Frank Herbert, novel series Dune.

I might have to give that a try as I read Dune, but as you can see I'm a little reluctant to buy books not by the original author.

Not sure about the author passing on the writing but I definitely don't like when they change the translator. I read a series of English books in french (when I still lived in France ) and all of a sudden the books didn't have the same feel about them so i checked and the translator was different.
