We have already been told that if we wake up tomorrow to a blanket of snow there will be no work. No work, no pay.

Really? They’ve got to give you advance notice, at least 2 days, unless your contract has a clause that means you would not be paid for special circumstances

hspexy bit of a weird set up as I am classed as self employed and get my work from a contractor on a weekly basis. If weather is too bad can't work but not always possible to give 2 days notice and he won't get paid either. For me, not too bad as I am retired and the money is a help not so much a dire need so can afford to miss a few days.

Lynibis ah that explains it - it wouldn’t apply to those in similar set ups, unless stipulated in the contract. When I used to do contract work I was given the same privileges as standard workers due to the nature of my job, so i never minded when it snowed
