What Tog is Your Duvet ?

Ask a Question

I have just bought a new duvet 13.5 tog, as we are not putting the central heating on. Last night it's the first time I put it on the bed and it was lovely and warm, to be honest it was a little too warm

Although if we get the predicted cold snap it will be ideal 😀

Previously I had 10.5 tog duvet.

Ours is 13.5 in the winter and 10.5 in the summer. It comes in handy in the winter as it keeps you warm and you don't notice how cold it is first thing in the morning.

MrsCraig I must admit I was really surprised how warm and light it was, I thought it would be a lot heavier.

beccatavender You notice that it is a little heavier when you move back to your summer duvet, I did anyway.

Pfs That's a good idea, but I hate feeling trapped, I can't even have a top sheet unless it's not tucked in, so being zipped into a bag would freak me out 😀

We have a winter and summer one. Right now I have them both in the same duvet cover! I actually quite like the extra weight too of both of them together. I can see why weighted blankets are popular.

The TOG number is how insulating it is . Does not necessarily equate to the weight . I have a 9.5 for summer and a much more expensive 13.5 for winter (goose down ) ,but both are about the same weight . I think it's a matter of personal preference whether you like a light or heavy duvet as long as it keeps you warm .

I never heat the bedroom , but like a warm bed (even preheat it with an electric blanket ) but once I'm in the duvet does it's job in keeping me toasty . Think when I change the bedding this week I might just replace the 9.5 with the 13.5 as it looks like we're in for a cold spell .

Golfforall That sounds cosy, unfortunately as I am asthmatic, I have to have hypoallergenic bedding and have always going the 10.5, even before this winter we never had the heating on full time, just on a timer so you woke up to a warm house, making it easier to get out of bed 🙂

beccatavender I just like a warm comfy bed to go to . My mates take the mick out of me for having my electric blanket on to pre heat the bed ! ( didn't have it on June - September though ) . Recently bought myself a pair of bamboo pillowcases , best I've ever had and so soft . Not sure if they are any good for asthma , but certainly soft and smooth -if a bit pricey .

I usually have 10.5 for the winter and 4.5 for the summer months, but at the moment I still have the 4.5 on, as well as an electric blanket and finding it still warm enough.

As of 2 days ago I put a 3/3.5 (forget but the lightest one) tog in the duvet cover. Don't currently need more than that. Previous to that it was just the duvet cover. The Mrs on the other hand has a few blankets over her too

10.5 for me as I don't like being hot in bed. I also have a window open at night, even during the winter.
