Tourist Shot in Cape Town Sues Google for 'Sending Him into Violent Township'

In the News

Sometimes following a sat nav can be a bit perilous , sending you down one way streets , to dead ends and sometimes nearly over cliffs !

This American tourist is going to sue Google for directing him via a short cut to one of the most violent areas of Capetown in South Africa

While driving through he was shot in the face and had the rental car with all his belongings stolen

You would think that he would not stand much of a chance suing them, until you read Google took the short cut from their maps last November after many others who followed their sat navs short cut also suffered muggings and attacks , so knew what was happening to others before him

Being America who knows what might happen , but i should imagine Google will put up a good fight with plenty of funds for expensive lawyers

MelissaLee1 A good question M

I bet the shopkeeper would only quote you, 'A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play'

Sat nav are great but you do need to be careful with sat nav and following their directions. It's tried taking us to odd places over the years. As soon as we clock we pull over and look on the map. Not taken us to cliffs or dangerous parts of towns

telmel lol I do wonder how people go off cliffs. You must see you're heading off a road and near a cliff

I agree with Melissa but I am torn on this one as that was a terrible thing to go through and they should not direct people to known hostile and violent places but at least bring up a warning that you enter at your own peril.

I've seen a few videos on youtube about how utterly moronic and corrupt the ANC is and the vile Jacob Zuma. Nelson Mandela was such an amazing figure perhaps the greatest man of the last century and then for it to be followed with utterly corrupt and disgusting politicians who have pretty much destroyed the country. So instead of being a beacon of hope for Africa its just another utter mess of corruption and failure. It's an incredibly dangerous country unless you live in one of those enclosed communities with huge walls and armed security guards patrolling it. The idea that only certain parts of South Africa are dangerous is my issue with this news report. I'm guessing any minor road is probably high risk.

I hope he wins the lawsuit! South Africa may have some nice spots but like every country, has crime spots 😬

MelissaLee, I don't think a lawyer would be on ur side this time somehow. He/she would probably say it's ur own fault for having guilty pleasures lol.
