What Do You Do With Your Old Clothes?

Ask a Question

My kids have so many old clothes that no longer fit or they don't like - what do you do with them? sell them? if so where or do you give away?

I sell them as I always think that that money will help with their new clothing, but struggle to know the best place to sell

I either donate to local chairty shops, sell them at a carboot or online apps such as vinted and depop or give them away to family members. . I try and not put them into the bin If I have to. If they are really badly stained or they have ripped somehow I would cut them up and put them in artsy box we have and put them towards creating something with them. .

Not a fashionista so most things i wear until they all but fall off lol.Anything half decent goes into recycle.Somethings get chopped up and used as cleaning clothes or hand clothes.

I sell my sons stuff when no longer needed. I always sell mine on fb marketplace as I find it is the best place for me, but places like ebay, vinted, gumtree and depop are also popular.

If they are stained a bit then I put them up for free or offer them to a local nursery as spare clothes.

I would give them to charity or friends who had young children. But then I lazy and couldn't be bothered to sell them on an EBay

beccatavender I'm the same. I pass my clothes down to my friend who has 8 kids. So she appreciates the help. I can't deal with piles of clothes/ parcels siting about until someone buys something. The clutter gives me anxiety.

I usually donate them to charity or pass them on to friends and family if they’re in a good enough condition to still be used by other people. I’ve never had good experiences with selling them personally so I just give them away.

Nickynoo40 Depop is similar to Vinted but you pay fees on sold items. Used to use them but now only use Vinted x

Something that might be good for you is Thrift+, you send your clothes to them and they sell them for you and then you earn credits to spend on new clothes and donate to charity https://thrift.plus

If you could do with the money then I would same them. People alway sell good quality second hand clothes. People need them.

If you don’t need the money so much then give them away. But make sure you ain’t giving them to someone that then sells them on. Give them to a genuine case. Go to a local food bank place they will either take it or they will tell you where you can donate them if you want to give them to people who need them.

For selling them just use eBay there is loads of clothes for sale on there.

I have tried selling on eBay but people don’t pay a lot so it doesn’t seem worth the effort of all the parcelling up. I usually just put them back in the wardrobe in the hope I’ll wear them one day!

I usually sell them on Vinted , if in a good sellable state. Donate to the charity shops usually books or kids toys when washed.

Clothes bins also, as have one near us and easy to get to.

Vinted is great app, easy to use and sell. They accept Hermes, ups and royal mail delivery services. I tend to use the Hermes delivery as the buyer then pays for postage and you print out a postage label, fully tracked within a 24 hours and delivers to buyers chosen place within two days, can take longer sometimes though.

Payout is quick, tend to save mine up to a good amount before transferring to my bank and into savings.

Ours get demoted, demoted and demoted down the importance of use until they end up being made in to Covid masks, rugs, toys etc etc .... or if too good for the demotion .... then to charity shops.

Donating them is good if you want to get rid of them quickly. But if you want to make sone money back, just stick them online, or look up community groups who may exchange or swap unwanted items

My clothes I always donate to the Salvation Army as they are one of my favourites to donate as they resell, hand out or recycle items. My son’s on the other hand I sell some if his as some are branded and it gives him some money back to repurchase.

I donate anything that is in a good condition to charity. During lockdown I've been using a website called https://www.icollectclothes.co.uk/ they are great as they come and collect from your home free of charge, all you have to do is book online and they collect Monday to Friday and can be completely contact free.

I always donate my clothes to the charity shop or someone who’s in need and unable to afford new things. As I do buy stuff and end up not wearing them 🤦🏼‍♀️ As for my son’s clothes the nicer ones I sell and he gets the money and if they aren’t in particular good condition to the Salvation Army.
