UK Army Now Allows Beards

In the News

The UK army has lifted it's hundred year ban on beards. King Charles has signed it off. So squaddies on Easter Break have time to grow a beard should they so desire. Some regulations still apply so I suppose tatty beards are out but it might increase recruitment who knows. There used to be a mustache law years ago as well.

They will have to stop using the expression ''that was a close shave'' when in battle now M

But they can say more now ''That was a bit hairy '' 😀

Mixed feelings about this one. When I was in Navy it was so very strict, hair mustn't touch collar, dress heel shoes no more than 2" , tie certain length etc. But, that said, I guess rules for rules sake doesn't serve anyone and I certainly don't see the harm in beards when in war, manoeuvres etc where facilities are limited.

Lynibis If in hand to hand combat I would be tempted to tug at a long beard lol.

MelissaLee1 as long as it wasn't blackbeard, he used to put lighted smoking tapers in his long beard to look more demonic and frighten his victims!

martinlufc5637 I bet the "woke brigade" is behind this. "Modernising everything that was previous barred. It will look awful on a service man on and off duty.

Wasn't it the British army that decided not to hire European men (aka White) in favor of "diversity"? Well, see how that works out.

I'm not going to fight for any foreign country.

Soldiers only started being clean shaven in WW1 becasue it interfered with the gas mask seal around face. Having facial hair doesnt have any bearing on whether a man or woman has courage. I'm all for it. Fat, gay, trans, green or blue 🤣 If they can pass the tests, have courage and honour then sign them up.

PaxAmerica Sounds about right. If you ever have to use a defib kit on a someone with a hairy chest you have to shave a spot to stop a fire.No kidding.
