Uk in Recession , is It Affecting You ?

I'm spending less. I'm going for better value if I'm honest. It's part money and not needing to have so much either

I spend a little less and allocate money differently.I walk away from over priced items and settle for a different brand .I seldom if ever go to pubs or theatre events. I am quite happy to take a pack lunch to the park/river both of which I have nearby and/or take tea and cakes to a friend's house.I shop at boot sales and charity shops.Never ever spend silly money on fashion , hair salons or nail bars.

I think it affects everyone really. I remember quite a few others I’ve lived through under ‘austerity’. Seems anything else is short lived. I’m always careful but definitely going without some things I used to buy as the price has risen so much!

Just read that it happened 3 months ago and they kept it quiet get them out ffs they have messed up to much

I don’t think much of any political parties really. They all do the same things just in a different way.

I'm definitely spending less as a lot goes on energy and car insurance has doubled even with maximum no claims.

Although I have a small income compared to most working people I am very lucky to not be feeling too much of a pinch. I finished my mortgage last year, I do not buy new clothes, make up, hair do once a year, don't smoke, don't drink, don't go out and no dependents, so all in all I manage to save for the odd break and to run my small car.

Spending a lot less money than normal, barely been out for a meal for ages, cut take aways out completely and just cut back in general

The biggest extra outlay is our energy monthly payments due to Russia Ukraine war.

I find it very hard and very stressful, trying to find items as cheap as possible. Months ago, it was said that prices were starting to go down. I can assure you, prices on the IOW in Newport, where I shop, have not gone down, they continue to rise. Its beyond ridiculous. I'm going to have to sell my car to pay energy bills. I've been living in my bed with an electric blanket on and a small heater, as I can't afford to heat the whole of my old, listed flat, which is usually colder than the weather outside. Something needs to be done and very soon!!!!

We've been cutting back on everything we can. We were never massive spenders, rarely went out to eat or get a take away but that's even less now. If we don't have to spend it then we won't. Just paying the essential bills has gotten so much more expensive.

Shrinking GDP which is just a reflection of how much money is swishing about in the economy is not a great indicator of economic health because like many countries such growth is fuelled by debt. If you can increase GDP while reducing debt and increasing your trade surplus then fair enough a great indicator but that isn't the case for us and many other economies of the EU.

If I go on a spending spree fuelled by credit card borrowing so many companies benefit from my purchases but I'm in a terrible financial situation that is not a good thing.

What would be a good indicator of the UK economy doing better would be a trade surplus and paying off our debts and living within our financial means. To be honest I'm annoyed by the stupid obsession with GDP at the expense of all the other financial indicators which are often terrible.

What recession??? A friend of mine works in Selfridges and the amount of money spent on handbags, shoes, make-up, I could go on by their clients is more than what she earns in a year. Also, I know someone who is a delivery driver for a well-known Pizza chain and is into constant work in the evenings. Don't get me started on mobile phone companies and betting online and shops billions of pound profit.

I only spend on groceries that I really do need. (I stopped buying desserts, pops, expensive biscuits years ago). Also, all my clothing I only buy them from Asda sales. I can manage my finance with ease.
