United States "Officially Has No Language" but..

Other

It was the British and Spaniards (aka Europeans) who colonized America but still as of today, America stands with "no official language" which is bizarre. Why this still hasn't been resolved, that's a good question.

Books, exams, tests, schools, socializing, road signs, etc are all in English. Yeah, there's certain parts which are in Spanish but it's obvious it's an English-speaking country.

In Canada (America's neighbor), if you want to live there, you either have to learn English or French as these are the two official languages of Canada.

You know, I've heard people say "Those who move to a new country don't need to learn its language." but in that case, how will they be able to tell where to go (follow a map or GPS but might end up on the wrong location anyway), communicate, socialize, talk to the police, and so on? Well, they can't as they've decided to refuse learning it. Absurd that people have this mentality. For holidays? Yeah, sure thing. To live? Gotta learn it. If not, not much point moving to another country if they're not willing to get used to the country's standards.

It’s worth remembering that there are tens of millions of adult US citizens who don’t speak English at home – something like 35 million (equivalent to about half the population of the UK). They seem to cope perfectly well. The majority of those 35 million speak Spanish – and I’m not talking illegal immigrants. If you added those there’d be even more. Of course most of them are also proficient in English and use it if and when they need to.
