The women's US Open final is taking place on Saturday 11 September at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. It all kicks off at 4.00 pm local time, which is five hours behind the UK – so it's 9.00 pm for British viewers

Maybe us Prime members should be asking Amazon for a partial refund on our subscription 🤔 After all, it's our money that goes towards securing broadcasting rights, and now they've sold it on to Channel 4 for millions of pounds. Doesn't seem right as Prime members are paying for a premium service and are now subsiding free viewing.

Maybe Sky Box Office will keep charging £24.95 for the Anthony Joshua fight and then at the last minute sell it to ITV. That wouldn't go down well. I'd love to watch him being knocked on his arse, but I'm not paying for it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that it's to be shown on free-to-air, but I really hate Channel 4, so that's why I'm moaning.

Nice informative post Lambeth82, because there would have been a lot of people that wouldn't have known.

I'll be getting the wine and popcorn out for me and MrsChimp, even though I'm not too fussed on tennis normally.

I find it difficult to believe that anyone can object to others watching a thing that generates money for a good cause because they have the thing as part of a paid service. It doesn't cost those who pay for Amazon prime anything extra. I could perhaps understand slightly if it was "pay to view" on Prime Video.

"Prime Video said it will reinvest all fees from the Channel 4 agreement into British women’s tennis to support the next generation of female British talent". FROM: https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/uk-sport-news/emma-raducanu-free-tv-channel-21542553

This posting may not make sense I was posting it in the other thread and that thread suddenly disappeared.

davidstockport That link is mainly about iplayer and of course iplayer always needs a tv license as its BBC content.

It's written on some sites that as long as you aren't watching live, even one minute later than broadcast you are exempt. Sometimes you can just click into the coverage go to the beginning i.e. non live and so you are in catchup mode and not live. That's how stupid this bloody law is you end up trying to split hairs trying to work around it. There is absolutely no reason why people should be prevented from watching live tv that has no financial connections with the BBC at all. Obviously viewing the match after it has aired completely is legal without a TV license and obviously viewing it live requires a TV license but there is no clear information on how much into the program you can start watching it on catchup. Have you seen a source that says the programe must have finished completely its live broadcast before catchup is legal. What if the program is long running like something that may have 6 hours coverage like a sports event like the olympics. Do you have to wait 6 hours to use catchup. The law is a farce when it comes to tv licensing. I don't think Amazon prime operates in the same way as maybe itv or ch 4 catchup services. All very confusing with lots of different sources saying slightly different things.

https://www.techadvisor.com/how-to/digital-home/tv-licence-3423808/

When don't I need a TV Licence?

On-demand television does not require a TV Licence. This is any content that is viewed later than the initial broadcast time, accessible via catch-up TV services (except BBC iPlayer), YouTube or other online video platforms, or various streaming services.

That thread was removed (quite correctly) as a duplicate of this one. It then reappeared, then was removed again. (confusing eh!)😀

It might help you understand the licensing regulations (I know they're complicated) if you just pause for a few minutes when you start to stream a live broadcast, when you restart you are still watching the same stream and need a TV licence. If you watch it after the programme has ended ON CATCH UP - then you don't need a licence.

I've just realised that on some devices that allow you to delay/pause the stream or broadcast, you are theoretically recording a live broadcast - and the recording of any broadcast as transmitted requires a licence... got us all ways haven't they!😀

ADDED BY EDIT to confirm:

Q: Do I need a TV Licence if I watch a programme on a delay?

A: Yes. If you record any programme on live TV, you need a TV Licence. Even if the device or technology you use creates a delay between when the programme is shown and when you watch it.

Thanks for that Emma - good to see that the offending postings were removed instead of the topic being locked or removed. You might have noticed the matter was taken to another topic (which has been removed).

You've probably worked out what's going on.

I think there was some technical problem yesterday, topics were disappearing and then reappearing then disappearing again.

Did anyone else notice it? BonzoBanana obviously did,

I am reasonably certain that this topic wasn't showing when I posted a very similar topic (which was quite rightly removed as a duplicate - then it reappeared - then it disappeared again😀)

I only watched the final, fantastic tennis from the 18 year old. Have you seen this article Emma Raducanu says it 'meant everything' to get message from Queen after US Open win

I only watched the final too (I don't like tennis usually) but that was fantastic.

Good to see that the Queen and also the PM sent personal messages, That means a lot to those who get them. It was also good of The Queen to mention "the runner up" Leylah Fernandez it takes two to make a good contest and no way will I call her "a loser".

A bit of trivia some might not have noticed "Both finalists were born in Canada in the same year".

Johnny And the Championship match was on the 20th Anniversary of it - so that should help us remember it.

The World Trade Center and the match venue were both in New York too.😀

(not seen you for some time Johnny - thanks for posting the deal for the Echo Dots @£18.99 before Christmas 2020- I bought a few - they're great)
