Wearing Watches
Ask a Question
Do people still wear watches? Realised I havent worn a watch in 15years!!! what about you guys, is it a generation thing?
is that because its park of your job role or is it because you need to know where you are in your work day - hope that makes sense!
I wear a watch. I don't wear it about the house as I've got the clocks on the wall but I wear it work and when we go out.
How do you remember to put it on lol i would forever be forgetting which is maybe why I have given up lol
I wear a watch that doesnt even work just for the fact it makes me feel fancy if I’m going out, I don’t use it for the time... bought my partner a Hugo Boss watch for christmas last year and he likes it for going out too..
Yeah is this a gender thing as lots of male relatives and friends all wear a watch but can only think of one woman out of us all? interesting. Hang on so it doesnt work? what if someone asks you the time lol has it sentimental value?
OneeyedRaven I have my phone on me at all times no not really, I just really like how it looks I could put a new battery in it but don’t see the point as I don’t use it to check the time
No, ive never worn one, apart from when i was young and everyone had a baby g watch, then i had a fitbit and an apple watch but only wore them a handfull of times. I dont like anything restrictive on me. I just look at my phone.
I have always worn a watch but they now tend to be a bit more of a sports watch than a pretty/elegant faced job. I prefer a velcro strap - yeah! I heard you snigger! - in my defence I don't enjoy wearing one in the gym or swimming it's taken off pretty easily. I guess it is a generation thing but I also check my phone.
no sniggering from this corner thats the kinda watch I am thinking of wearing easy on easy off on with life
i wear one only when i go out i couldnt stand it if it was on my wrist at all times i have 4 and they hardly get worn
You've not worn one for 15 years, but that suggests you aren't too young. I'd expect older generations to be more likely to still wear watches.
I have 8 watches, and I wear 3 of them regularly. I have a couple I regret buying, one pretty much reserved for weddings/funerals and another old one I don't wear much anymore.
Despite having a few, I'd like more, though my latest watch is going to be pretty hard to beat in terms of the style I like. But I'd like to experiment with some more watch face colours - I tend to prefer blue (and have 5 blue I think) but would really like a green one!
Oddly, I feel like I'm not fully dressed if I leave the house without a watch, but I can't stand wearing them around the house.
wow now I feel old with or without a watch I guess you cant stop the march of time. I feel like this a bit re makeup hate wearing in the house but feel a bit exposed if facing the world beyond a dash to the shops etc
OneeyedRaven I wasn't calling you old or wanting you to feel old, if that's what you mean just that you're clearly not a kid, and I think they are the least likely to be interested in watches because they have the time on their phones. Though even I'm young enough to have had a phone while in secondary school, I had watches before that (still got my first 'adult' watch).
You mention makeup though, so I'm assuming you're a woman (maybe not though). Women tend to wear watches less than men anyway, so there's that too consider too. For many men, it's the only jewellery item they own.
MeestairChrees I know how you meant it dont worry but we've both touched on it to maybe it does differ with generation and gender- loved the adult watch comment- I still have my first adult pen complete with box lol
Yes I do have a watch and wear it most of the "time". Sorry, dad joke that had to be said.
actually belly laughed as didnt see it coming I was so earnest in my reading of your comment- score 1 for the Dad jokes!
i wear a fitbit, havent worn a watch in years, i always used my phone to get the current time before the fitbit
I always wear a watch but don’t look at my phone constantly to tell the time. i generally wear the same watch although I have several and feel naked if not wearing one.
Noticed a couple of people mention smart watches.
As a kid I always wanted a smart watch (before they were a thing) - I watched repeats of Knight Rider and wanted to talk through my watch to a cool car
And while I like the idea of having certain phone functionality on my wrist for convenience, I can't ever see myself moving to smart watches. I personally just don't like the look of most of them. There are some that look like real watches, but are digital displays - they look nice but still aren't "real" to me. I'd love in the future, for them to develop a smart screen that you can just slap on a real watch for smart functionality - might be a while off yet though!
OneeyedRaven oh I wish I could, but it's not my skill set unfortunately. But if I ever do, definitely a discount for LD!
I haven’t worn a watch for many, many years. I don’t see the need for them, especially as I use my phone to check the time
For me, it's important to have a watch because there are certain times when pulling out a phone to check would be really inappropriate.
I have a nice one that was a gift so it looks nice and i like wearing it. I do find when i#m not wearing it that i miss being able to easily see the time. Especially now that my phone is too big to comfortably fit in my pocket.
Good point - the phones are so much bigger now! Great definition, amazing camera, clever apps.....but not pocketable.
I have a watch as part of my step tracker but I don't wear a traditional one anymore. If I'm not wearing the tracker I tend to use my phone
