What's Your Average Spend on Filling a Christmas Stocking ?

Ask a Question

I was wondering what people put in Christmas stockings. I have friends that put jewellery and perfume/ Aftershave in them.

I have always filled them with cheaper gifts, like Terry's chocolate orange.felt tip pens and little cheap bits I find on offer. Probably spending £15 per stocking maximum.

It depends for a child I would say £10 but for an adult it's a lot more, as the items are a lot more expensive, I think I spend about £50 last year for my husband's stocking, alcohol, books, chocolate ......

beccatavender Thank you for the response. You have a lucky husband 😊. Maybe I am being a bit tight 😂. I will have to upgrade them 🌲🎅

wyal5 I buy things through out the year, plus he only gets a stocking and one of two other gifts 🙂

I try to aim for cheap gifts but also find I don't want to buy useless rubbish that they won't use, so I spend a bit more than I use to. We don't do adult stockings just the kids and I buy quite a few books. So I reckon maybe £20 for my younger daughter and £30 for my older son.

Midnightflower thank you for responding. Every year I definitely seem to be buying a lot less useless bits. It is more quality than quantity 😊

wyal5 my thoughts exactly, it just creates more mess and clutter and then you end up chucking it away.

Midnightflower I agree with this, although I don’t spend excessively on fillings for stockings I don’t buy useless bits or joke gifts so spend a little more to buy things that will actually be used and appreciated 🙂

I don't do a stocking for my son. I don't see the point just now as he is only 3. When my mum did my stocking, she would put stationary, books, socks , some sweets in it. Probably between £10 and £15.

I fill them with sweets for the children so not very much at all, probably less the £10.

I usually fill Christmas stockings with toiletries, chocolates, sweets, little gifts and useful gifts. Spend around £20-25 on gifts for filling them.

I tend to put sweets and silly presents in stockings for my grandkids. Last year 1 got broccoli 1 got cauliflower and 1 got Brussel sprouts the one veg each of them can’t stand… they found it funny and we used the veg for lunch 😁

My kids got a couple of £ in silver for good luck plus nuts plus an orange usually a tangerine or clementine then around £10 in small gifts, my grandchildren now get £10 in stocking fillers off me plus their main presents allowance.

I only have 4 to do. We agreed that’s it’s only token gifts as they have birthdays just before Christmas.
