When is a Comp Not a Comp?

Other

This morning had a call from someone saying I had won one of those food box subscriptions. I was told it was 50% off first box 35% off second etc and only when I said I doubt I would enter a comp for only a discount did he say I was runner up.

With some difficulty, trying not to be rude, I extricated myself from the conversation but they have phoned twice more since then.

A couple of years ago I won £200 voucher for blinds which I entered thinking it would be enough for a blind for my small kitchen window. However, as the blurb went on on he said oh no, minimum spend is £1200 so in effect I had 'won' nothing. I commented on that and many other members had received same call.

There surely must be a way to report these people under trade descriptions of something?

What do you think of this?

I suppose it all depends on the terms and conditions. Most of us wouldn't bother reading them, so maybe there was something hiding in them.

As most comps are just for data gathering, it doesn't surprise me.

I'd love for the blinds man rang me, it would make for an interesting conversation 😉

Lets be honest . You haven't "won" anything .

You supplied your details (phone number and/or email ) to "enter" a "non competition " ie an advertising push .

One of the reasons I do not enter competitions even with a made up "competition email " .

That's what I said in my original post. But most are real and honest and I have won some fantastic prizes over the years, too many to even remember. All genuine and with no catches.

Even some without minimum spend can end up costing a lot getting places ect.

Hi Lynibis I think the competition was a spin the wheel thing https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/competitions/win-5-weeks-fresh-box-socialblue Don't think it has closed. Every entrant gets a discount and the chance to win the free meals. I had the call also, said I'd had them before but didn't want the discount.

Ah that explains it, he did say fresh box I think but didn't mention ITV. Bit strange to be phoning around if the winner has yet to be announced.

Lynibis I had a woman and she wasn't pushy. I'll take a free box but cost wise I could buy the ingredients myself. I've just had 2 (4 people boxes) at a discount, first box was brilliant, second had 6 ingredients missing and the recipe cards, plus the meat allowance is very low. I know my OH eats a fair amount of meat being a body builder but I think most men would want more than 3oz/95g per meal.
