What Do You Do When You Feel Demotivated?
Ask a Question
I have been attempting to diet and exercise and often have periods where i feel demotivated. what do people do to help motivate themselves?
even general motivational tips might help!
I find that listening to music while I exercise can help me because I focus more on singing along or listening to the music rather than the exercise I’m doing and it seems to go by a lot faster.
With diet, I find if I change up what I’m eating more often and try not to have the same things all the time I’m less bored by the foods so I want to keep going with it more. I also do let myself have things that aren’t ideal for dieting too though so it doesn’t seem as much like a punishment to myself.
thats really helpful. i have a cross trainer at home- i end up trying to watch a movie but i know id much rather be sitting on my bum on the sofa.
yeah i find i get bored of eating similar meals. thats a good idea.. i guess its better to have a small treat then to get totally fed up and stop it altogether.
thanks
pownall0407 I tried watching TV but it didn’t seem to work as well as music for me personally. Hopefully it helps you too!
And it’s definitely better to have small treats from time to time, than get fed up entirely and give up.
Good luck finding something that works for you!
Life's too short to worry about exercise just short walks will be fine unless need to lose alot
pownall0407 Don't try to lose two stone it's much easier to lose one pound twenty eight times. ocasionally you might need to lose more than the minimum twenty eight to make up for the odd few pounds you've gained along the way.
Maybe you need a fitness tracker / watch . Lets you set up targets to achieve or compete with friends (or complete strangers ) on the website , not live but a daily check gives some motivation to do that bit extra ?
Just doing things you enjoy normally picks people up. I love exercise, or playing with my cats, or watching something happy and joyful.
I enjoy exercise initially then it just becomes a chore. Maybe I need to change my work out up a bit z
pownall0407 yes the key is to switch it up, doing different routines, adding things, taking things away. There’s also so many resources online these days, so they’re helpful to check out
Mostly when I go on a diet I eat in moderation and choose one day in the week I call my 'cheat day' where I eat whatever I want so I never feel like I am going without. It's always best to choose the exercise you enjoy, for everybody it's different. If you feel bored doing a work out you aren't going to want to do it and your motivation will be low. And if I'm ever feeling too tired or worn out to work out I always add energy drink to my water bottle and it keeps me going
I like the idea of having a cheat day because I do get really fed up. I havent found an exercise I like haha
pownall0407 The fitness Marshall is fun to follow. He's on YouTube. The amount of weight I have shredded doing his work outs is incredible
pownall0407 It gives me energy and i always get happy from the chocolate, motivated
Find a good audiobook, self development books are great.
I've been listening to Ant Middleton&his team helping people for the london marathon, very inspiring.
Music is great too...look at your foods, what you can change, you can exercise all hours but it comes down to your food choices.Start meal prepping, theres lots of advice on youtube, hydrate plenty, maybe look at supplements x
Try an exercise thats fun so you will enjoy the journey forget about the destination for now
I just think the positive things in my life and how lucky I am. It is very easy to loose the motivation but keep going
The hardest step is the first step....
That I always remind myself... so it could be something as little as a short run, with a few of my fave songs. By the time you are out, you get into it and stay a little longer.
Since you didn't promise anything too much to yourself, you don't beat yourself over it.
