When Do You Open Christmas Presents?
Ask a Question
On Christmas Day, do you open presents before or after dinner?
Growing up it was always first thing (sometimes at 6am!) but one of our neighbours didn't open theirs until after Christmas dinner around 4 or 5pm.
I thought everyone opened them super early. Isn't that normal? It sounds ridiculous opening them after your Dinner. Nope, not for me. It never has been or will be.
Emerge11 I couldn't ever make my daughter wait until that late, it's all the fun of Xmas morning for me.
Our son opens his as soon as he gets up and we do ours when my parents arrive. We don't buy each other gifts, just ones for my parents so we don't get presents till they arrive.
Usually always in the morning but my brother will be working on christmas day so we'll be waiting for him this year to open together.
Always the mornings but my sons are adults now. This is the first year they both haven't lived at home so this year we will open when everyone arrives mid morning.
We've always opened our presents after Christmas lunch. Even when the children were small. They were given a stocking to open in the morning (with one present that would keep them quiet.. lego, computer game etc) then after dinner, everyone sat round having a drink while "santa" (designated by a santa hat) gave out presents one by one so everyone could see what everyone got. Used to take til 7 or 8pm when the kids were small!!
The " kids" now in their 30's & 40's do the same with their children.
We always went down whenever the first person woke up to find 'Santa had been!' and opened all our presents, munching on chocolate to keep us going.
The room ended up covered in paper, the radio was usually on and we would eat Christmas dinner when it was ready around 12-1pm. Then we would watch a Christmas film and usually nod off for a bit
We try just try and fit seeing everyone in over Christmas now. We don't really have a routine, hoping to have a quiet one this year. Although no presents for us.
When we were children it was always first thing in the morning but now as adults it tends to be early evening before we actually get to open ours, after visiting and cooking dinner.
Making kids wait while after dinner is child abuse, I mean who does that!!! Shocking, my kids are up at 5am
We get up get the brews ready then wake the kids up to get started on the presents normally takes about hour then I start to cook the meats for dinner
As a kid it used to be at like 5am but now im an adult it’s usually in the afternoon or sometimes even boxing day
I open a couple of presents around midnight Christmas morning. My parents let me do this when I was little and I've carried on doing it. Then open more before dinner then some after dinner.
As a kid we used to open them after dinner
To be honest there is no set rules as to when to open Christmas gifts
I normally open on the day of Christmas along with my family. You have chosen nice questions to ask
