Remember when co-op was responsibly priced back in the day
Price list from co-op
Bottle of vodka £2.45
Butter less than 10p
MelissaLee1 I'm guessing £2+ for a bottle of vodka was still expensive back then lol
The most recent figures available come from this Department's inquiry, in October 1974, into the earnings and hours of manual workers in manufacturing and certain other industries. Average gross weekly earnings of full-time manual men, aged 21 and over, in the United Kingdom were then £48.63. The corresponding figure for women manual workers, aged 18 and over, was £27.01. The industries covered are manufacturing, mining and quarrying—except coal mining—construction, gas, electricity and water, transport and communication—except railways and sea transport—public administration and certain miscellaneous services.
Coop used to be a major force in supermarkets nowadays it just seems to convenience stores only except Dorchester which is 20 miles from Yeovil has a Coop supermarket but its very expensive and never very busy. Also Glastonbury has a fairly large Coop on the high street but that is even more ridiculous price wise. Yeovil's largest Coop became an Asda. I also remember Fine Fare and International supermarkets. There also used to be Kwik Save which I used to shop in a lot many years ago.
BonzoBanana I think the co-op is quite expensive, I haven't been in for a while, last time we shopped there my Mrs said she wouldn't go back because of how expensive it was
