Whose Going to Take Advantage of Eat out to Help Out?

Ask a Question

As the scheme starts today, who will be taking advantage of this?

I may pop out but depends on the availability as i work Mon to Fri so i have limited time Mon to wed when the scheme is going.

Where will people be going if they do go out? I know the one place i wont be supporting is Wetherspoons.

chelseaturpin He told his staff to go work in supermarkets at the start of the pandemic and was not going to be paying them.

Getsome screw that I wouldve not bothered to go back and work for company if that is how staff are treated. I wouldve got a job in supermarket and stayed there.

Getsome Certainly puts a spin on things doesn't it. I really like the owner too. I thought he was a great guy. Funny how you see a person's true colours when it comes to £££. Xx

Makes perfect sense going out to eat when govt released "obesity strategy" to loose weight on 27/07/20

I have just written about this. You really could not script the idiocy of the comms strategy at No. 10. They may have wanted to leave the calorie counting, obesity strategy until September thinking about it. Xx

And they allowed McDonald`s to take part of this offer and other unhealthy food chains.

Just want to mention because of Pandemic KFC decided to not make salads...kind of the only healthy option on the menu..

I think it not makes people spend less...This support make them eat more

Both arguments are valid but the timing of it is quite silly

Tried to take advantage of it in Starbucks this afternoon, but staff were clueless. They said they weren't part of the scheme, even though they're on the list. Had better luck at a ice cream parlour - a tasty deal.

My wife and I had an excellent lunch in Cote Brasserie today and got twenty quid off our bill.

It was A La Carte (i.e. there was no set menu available) but still good value thanks to the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

Here's what they say about the scheme on the Cote website:

I'm interested but haven't found out yet what places where I live are a part of the scheme. I plan to look into this tomorrow and see if there is anywhere close or anywhere I fancy. I know mcdonalds are a part of it but well... hmm, I'd rather a nice gammon and chips or a steak than a burger and fries.

If you type in your post code on this site, you will get a list of all the nearby places which are part of the scheme.

RegularComper90 Thank you for this. Very helpful. Turns out there's over a 100 restaurants and cafes in my postcode area taking part, not just mcdonalds. I'll have to decide which one to visit. 👍

Eee, see I want to support this and go out and eat. But at the same time I don’t, as most people just aren’t sticking to the rules...

Unfortunately i have really gone off eating out and much prefer home cooked food. My daughter has started to do a lot more since lockdown so that really helps.

We considered going out for a meal tonight to celebrate results day for our 16 year old, but everywhere is either shut, drive through only or fully booked 🤦🏻‍♀️ don’t think we will be able to find anywhere in August!

I think it’s a great way of getting people to return to pubs, cafes etc. I’m not intending to use this offer as I feel quite vulnerable. Stay safe everyone.

Well as I've already had covid 19 and feel I am either immune to it now in the short term or will have much reduced symptoms if I get it again I made use of the offer at Morrisons. I had a all day breakfast for about £2, a mocha for 50p and toffee syrup pudding with ice cream for about 87p. It wouldn't be much cheaper to cook this at home. The mushrooms were disappointing though. They cut them into slithers rather than leaving them as whole mushrooms. Also service was slow due to someone unfamiliar with the till. Probably go again next week.

Nope, think it’s too risky, some places near me I’ve driven past and the place is packed😬 i‘d only go if I knew the place had proper safety measures put in place but I’m not rushing to go out to eat anywhere

Went to my local subway for lunch, had a nice footlong meal for cheap and I was the only one inside at 1pm surprisingly. May go again. Cheap lunch.

We are going to our local Morrisons this morning, purely because my mother in law is visiting and wants to go. I've no idea if it is part of the scheme, but it is cheap enough anyway. I don't imagine I will be taking advantage of it otherwise.

I honestly felt I was stealing from them with the prices at the Morrison cafe, it seemed like I was paying so little for so much, a very rare experience. Mocha's were lovely too and only 50p. Strangely Morrisons are extending the offer I think beyond Wednesday at their own expense. Noticed a few elderly people with what looked like one of their children in the cafe who looked very vulnerable and couldn't help wondering if they were trying to bump off their parent. I.e. a 70 year old parent with a 40 year old child etc. I suppose if you wanted to get rid of someone who is old you just need to take them around covid 19 hotspots and wait for the virus to do its thing and can't see how you could prosecute someone for doing that. Noticed some very vulnerable people out and about, including elderly people on their own who must have been well into their eighties possibly nineties. Some not wearing face masks despite being in the store. Some people just seem to be acting like everything is normal. I haven't had many shop visits myself in recent times so quite a revelation to see how some people are acting.

BonzoBanana I have only been into the supermarket 3 times since lockdown. I'm in Scotland so face masks are mandatory, unless except, yet there are still lots of people not wearing them! Security have had to stop them going in the shop, which hasn't gone down well with some!

Morrisons is so reasonable as it is so it will be ridiculously cheap if our local one is doing the offer!

MrsCraig I think in England you don't have to wear a mask under certain health conditions presumably respiratory illnesses except for Covid 19 itself I assume. We have a large Tesco in Yeovil often with a security guard at the door who could check for face masks but there was no one like that about in Morrisons. Morrisons seem fitted out for the pandemic but I'm less than convinced by their staff training. I wear a face mask to protect others especially as I'm unsure if I have completely eradicated the virus myself, I find it a worrying when people who look very vulnerable to it come up close to me as they don't seem to care about covid 19. Perhaps I ought to wear a 'I've had Covid 19' T shirt.

BonzoBanana we have a security guard at our Morrisons, you aren't allowed in unless he says so. There are so many people that think because they are wearing a face mask they can come as close they want! We were in Iceland today and a woman was standing right next to my mother in law and she was told to back off. Some people just don't seem to care.

MrsCraig I think it’s a combination of people not arsed and people too stupid to understand it’s both masks AND social distance. A lot of people seem to think since they have a mask all is ok. I had a similar issue today, I was waiting for people to finish looking at where they looking so I could and some old woman just walked past everyone and stood right next to the people in front of me!
