Why Children Shouldn't Wear Thick Winter Coats in Cars
Other
Chances are your child will be wearing a winter coat this season. If so, you need to be aware of their hidden dangers.
I see this warning every year. I don't put my sons coat on him when he is in his carseat. I will take him out his carseat, out his jacket on, put him back in the carseat and then attach his carseat to the pram. I remember telling my mum about this, not that she ever takes him in the car without me, but she might in the future. She had no idea about this.
It's like the warning each year about not covering your babies pram when it is warm outside.
These warnings are good for new mums and dads as you might not think about this sort of thing.
As a transport service for children we are kept up to date with all the rules/changes of harnessing children in cars etc. We constantly have to take off thick coats which are not necessary when being put into a warm car. As you say, a blanket can go over a baby in a cradle and if the car hasn't yet warmed up I will place older childrens' coats over them.
