Will Anyone Else Be Glad to See the Back of This Heatwave?
Other
Saturday was not fun but at least I was working on a vehicle with air con. Sunday went to a bbq about 3.30pm and masses of people already there. Seats already grabbed along with most of the shade and 3 of us (all in 60s) left standing with not much room to move. I soon began a headache which lasted until Monday night, sweat literally running off me and handful of soggy tissues. I felt really ill and was so glad when one of our trio said she didn't think she could cope for very long. Third member looked cool as a cucumber!
I was driving us all so put up with it until we all agreed to leave at 6.30pm.
Monday, another bbq at son's but only 6 of us under plenty of shade, COLD drinks and a fan in garden. Still too hot though!
Today, back to work this afternoon in an old minibus with no air con. Dreading it. Thank goodness the temperature drops tomorrow.
Sorry to hear this heatwave makes you il. I love the warmth although I’ve not been in the sunshine as I avoid full sun. Carry a damp flannel in a plastic bag and when you feel hot just wipe yourself to cool down.
Good idea. My friend went into the kitchen at the first bbq and reappeared with a flannel wrapped around ice cubes lol. I usually carry baby wipes, they are good too.
I've totally had enough of this weather! I work in a small, stuffy office with no air con and it's so uncomfortable!! My cars air con doesn't work either so I can't even escape it during my commute.
I've always preferred cold weather over hot weather anyway. I love wrapping up warm and being cosy!
No not at all. It has only been warm from Sat-Mon. It is so cold most of the year, I look forward to the tiny amount of warm weather we get in the UK
I am a fair skinned blonde so the heat does get me on particularly hot days but I would still endure it rather than the cold weather. I swear by a wet micro fibre cloth in a ziplock bag - I took three out with me yesterday and they were used, non-stop, by the whole family. Rinsed easily and popped back in the bags. Having said all that I am well aware that the humidity varies around the country and can well understand many people retreating to a cold darkened room. (first time I've had the chance to ask - hope you had a good hol and the weather was tolerable?)
Thanks for asking angemski it was just right for me temperature
wise, mid twenties, which I enjoy and can still function normally. One full day of rain.
I too am fair hair/skin but I just cannot tolerate heat. I am constantly mopping myself and sweating profusely, which is not a good look. Long lasting headaches add to my misery lol! I also don't like it too cold but it doesn't seem to be as cold as when I was young.....climate change?
I am pregnant and I hate it....ughhh....I know the cold will be back soon, but my body just can not adjust to these changes.
Being pregnant in this weather is no fun, hope you get relief from the heat soon. Oh boy, swollen ankles!
I cant stand this hot weather, bring on the winter where I can be lazy in my duvet with a nice hot chocolate Christmas is my favourite season of all! im a house keeper so I know the struggle of work in this heat!
Loving the weather, not attending any BBQ’s, if I go out my car is air conditioned and if indoors the doors are open to allow a breeze. Lots of cold liquids in the fridge and a good book and a hammock.
I spent my days outside with my brother by walking outside for hours as we decided to do a DIY London tour on foot. It was nice as we had a picnic in the park and lots and lots of walking. I only dislike the sweating part it.
If we were to compare hot weather of UK vs Portugal, PT's far hotter and at certain points even hard to breath.
This isn't normal for UK but it is for PT. Speaking of, there's a lot of Brits in Algarve and even an Iceland supermarket, I think.
People react differently to heat and cold. 2 years ago at my son's wedding in Cyprus, it was 42° and I really struggled to stay on my feet. It spoiled the day for me but it was such a beautiful wedding and I got through it by sheer willpower.
Lynibis Cyprus is something special. I was there and loved it but wish I'd stayed longer.
Geographically, it's part of the Middle East but its population is mostly European (Greeks and the like). They speak Greek but from what I was told it's different than the Greek spoken in Greece.
Oh yeah, and in Cyprus they also use British charging adapters than EUR ones. Lynibis
Lovely micro country. It's kind of a paradise that most forget it exists and for those living there they sorta don't mind it but the main city is always with tourists.
I like hot weather during the middle of summer when the season is at its peak, but now that we are in late summer I am getting more and more ready for milder temperatures - temperatures of around 15-20 Celsius as we begin heading into autumn.
Hi lynibis hear in the highlands of Scotland we did not get any heatwave. We had rain and very strong winds. And In the eveing I had the heater on because it we so cold hear.
Amazing that such a small country as ours can have such a different range of weather from one end to the other.
Meh heatwaves just stop me in my tracks and often cause my migraines to flair up. I have just been taking my meds and taking it slowly. I hope it all calms down before school starts up again. I dislike working in a hot laboratory.
I like it, although i would prefer to be at the beach with the sea breeze in this kind of weather rather than in a polluted city
