Woman Was Scammed While Online Shopping in Her Sleep

In the News

This is a first for me, i never knew it could happen to anyone

This woman buys things online while 'sleepwalking' , entering her bank details to purchase items

She says she has spent over £3,000 on things like an inflatable basketball court !!

But the last time she 'sleepbought' she was scammed by a false government website and lost £250 from her bank

Her condition was diagnosed as 'parasomnia '

I think she needs to put a lock on her laptop to stop this happening again

I have never heard of this. She should just lock up her laptop like you say.

JLouM She could put a difficult password on it and keep it seperate and hidden, something she would not remember while sleepwalking

Then when awake would be able to find it and open

She needs to put her laptop in a safe and not have any apps or cards on her phone. So she can't shop in her sleep

Jerseydrew She might remember the code J , taking the apps off the phone is a good idea

If she turned the router off, locked her laptop in a cupboard and gave the key to another household member I would think that would solve the problem. If she lives alone freeze the key in a small tub of water before bed, she might give up or wake up while having to defrost!

Yeah common sense would be to just not have access to the internet and or her debit cards. It is amazing what people can do in their sleep though

I find this very difficult to believe it's just unbelievable. There are many precautions she could have taken if this were true, if she has managed to get away with it l am amazed. Afraid I'm calling BS on this one.

EmmaWright762 I see where you are going with it E, i don't blame you for thinking the worst

But personally i would not put myself out there to the public and admit things like buying and full size plastic basketball court , unless she was fibbing to the reporter

Also there is a known condition for this , so who knows ?

Surely she could block her cards before bed. Possibly talk to her bank to stop it happening
