World's Oldest Man is British Claiming Fish & Chips is the Key to His Long Life

In the News

You normally hear about people from other countries having lived the longest , the last was Juan Vicente Pérez Mora of Venezuela at 114 years of age who has now passed away, past record holders have been from Japan and other faraway places

But this time the new world’s oldest living man, John Tinniswood a great-grandfather from Merseyside has claimed the record at 111

He says he believes one reason for helping him live so long is his weekly portion of fish and chips, as well as eating things in moderation

That's good news for me, i love fish and chips , although they are a bit pricey now

But if it helps extend your years i will go with that , and can manage a portion once a week

Maybe it is the fish that helps more , despite the greasy batter, the japanese thrive on fish and they have had a few record breakers

I am just off to the chippy now

I never imagined I would see 'fish and chips' as the reason for long life. I suspect random chance and the fact he rarely drinks alcohol and doesn't smoke have been contributory factors. I wonder what italians and greeks are thinking who normally boast about their Mediterranean diet extending their lifespans and now read this news. If ever I get to 100 plus I will completely fake the reasons for my long life with feasting on pork pies and drinking whole bottles of vodka.

We are all wired up differently. Maybe the Fish N Chips Is true but Its the same as everything else It doesn't work for everybody. I love Fish N Chips and haven't had one In ages due to how much they cost. I will have to treat myself to one. I remember growing up and Fridays was Fish N Chip day In my household. Plus the Chip van used to come up my street most nights too. Lovely.

Don't mind fish and fries, but every week? Not for me. I prefer meat.

PhilipMarc My preference is fish, chips and mushy peas, lashings of salt and vinegar with brown sauce

I only have salt on fish and chips, i never put it on any other meal , so i over indulge myself with this

Chippy fish and chips is close to a tenner here and I begrudge paying so much, so it looks like I'll be dying early

You could try a home made recipe TC

You can make lovely rustic chips in an air fryer , cut up some chunky ones still in their skins and sprinkle with some herbs and spices you like , plus some salt and a spray of olive oil , or paste it them lightly on if you dont have a spray

Just stick them in the air fryer usually around 20 mins or possibly less

They come out golden brown and taste delicious besides very healthy

Also try airfrying a piece of salmon instead of cod , find a cheap portion in the supermarket, if that's possible, and make a home made batter and again springle with some spices

Heres the chip recipe , the picture is like the ones i have

I couldn't find the batter recipe for the salmon , but here is one close to mine but in breadcrumbs

enjoycleaneating.com/air-fryer-breaded-salmon/

A lot cheaper than the chip shop and healthier without the grease , plus it might add a few years for you

I actually prefer the salmon and chips version than cod, it has more flavour and is much healthier
