Wrong Prescription Glasses
Ask a Question
Was wondering if anyone has ever received the wrong prescription in there glasses I just bought 2 pairs and they definitely arnt right
I suspect that some opticians deliberately put the wrong details on the prescription so that any patient who decides to buy their glasses from anywhere else gets the wrong ones.
My EX optician virtually confirmed my suspicions when I told him an eye-check elsewhere revealed the first pair I'd bought elsewhere (as per his prescription) were nowhere near they should have been by saying "If you'd come to me you'd have got the right ones first time".
davidstockport aw did he that is the second time I have gave them back its a bloody disgrace they arnt long taking your money
I’m quite sure if you take your glasses to another optician they have something that can tell you what prescription your glasses actually are
suevernon1968 You're quite correct it is possible to check the specs to see if they match the prescription. In most cases they probably will match. But it doesn't check whether the details on the prescription were correct. (or within accepted tolerances).
suevernon1968 That's correct - if you see my opening comment it might explain better. Having said that you could get differing prescriptions from qualified opticians issued on the same day.
In my own case the glasses were NOWHERE near the measurements given on the prescription.
suevernon1968 aw do they I might have to ask in another one loads of people are complaining about getting the wrong prescription at the moment in mine that 3 people so must be many more
davidstockport I read it wrong lol. Yeah I had to go t see an ophthalmologist for a while and she was shocked how incorrect the prescription !
Once I was told I needed glasses but I declined them. I went back 2 years later to the same place and they told me there was nothing wrong with my eyes.
I went to the opticians (and have worn glasses for more years than I can remember) and needed a new prescription so I agreed to have them made. They had to remake them 3 more times before I could actually see through them!
tumblespots aw your joking well this is my second time and they still don't feel right its not very clear when I wear them on my phone
Maybe double check you filled in the form correctly or give them a ring to go through the prescription with you . Even send them a photo of the prescription . I know when I filled out the on line form I double and treble checked it as the + or - , Right and left , decimal places , corrections etc are easy to get wrong .
A reputable on line optician will not charge for correcting them as most do a full refund if you are not happy .
Golfforall I got them from the shop that done my test I have never had a problem before but just not happy with them this time they are giving me a sore head I hate having to go back in but they cost me £150
A few years ago I bought my glasses from Specsavers (I think) and I paid about £100 for them, no problems. Still use them and haven't needed them tweaked (I did do a check-up test last year, if I recall correctly).
Need glasses for driving and watching TV, while things nearby.. no need.
PhilipMarc thats where I go to they said I needed a slight bit stronger glasses one pair keeps falling off my face he has fixed them twice but still do the same when my head is down at work it's so annoying
Go back and tell them you are having problem, could be the prescription, a glassing error or a problem with fit. Also your vision can change from when you have a test to when the glasses are made, medication or viruses can cause issues. Who did you get them from?
Howmuch specsavers I have already asked for another eye test but she said I can't get another one as its every 2 year and I just got that one done when I took them back other day the guy said they do need changed as he put they wee circle glasses in front of mine so changed 1 pair to see what they are like bit I still feel they arnt right I hate complaining about stuff so embarrassed to go back in to the shop but I have to hand my other pair in tomorrow to get fixed
kate1310 That explains a lot.... Specsavers have very good opticians and equipment but some of those who take your order and check measurements for glasses are next to useless. I had taken a prescription from my EX optician to SpecSavers the girl who measured my pupillary distance (PD) measured correctly (within one millimetre of my own measurement) but the glasses which matched the prescription were just not right, I found out a few weeks later when I went back and they did a quick eye test which showed the prescription was wrong. I had a new full eyetest and ordered new glasses from SS. The male who measured my PD refused to listen when told he was obviously checking PD for reading when the glasses were for distance so the resulting glasses were actually out by 4mm from what they should have been. He said that didn't matter. For those who don't understand the PD will always be smaller for reading glasses than distance glasses because the closer an item is to your eyes the closer the pupils are to each other.
Incidentally the first prescription was only a few weeks old, the one who issued it looked more than a little guilty when I mentioned it. He'd always been reluctant to give me the actual prescription - one year he actually retained it.
davidstockport thats ridiculous that was great you got a new eye test I only wear my glasses for reading and at work I will see what they say when I go back in dreading it thanks for commenting
when I bought glasses online, I booked in a free sight test as they usually check your glasses’ prescription and advise accordingly. I thought they were wrong, but they were right. Usually, they just need to be adjusted properly, as depending on your prescription, it affects how well you see (sometimes, you get that ‘goldfish in a bowl‘ effect that’s not desirable)
I always get my eyes tested at Boots and ask for the prescription. I then go to a small family run business i've used for many years to manufacture my prescription glasses. You choose your frame and they make the lenses to fit all in a couple of hours. They are much cheaper than Specsavers, Boots or any others not mentioned.
I had my very first eye test done in a well known supermarket and was told l needed prescription glasses, l chose my frames and paid for two expensive pairs only to find that reader glasses was all that l really needed and could of purchased them at a fraction of the cost in so many outlets, very disappointed that I was naive and not informed/educated enough beforehand
Pinkspirit thats ridiculous I think most are just wanting money recently I have heard a few people complain about my opticians thanks for your commenting
