Should There Be Youth Centres

Other

do you think youth centres should be available for youngsters today. I used to love going to one and would be packed every day open.

did you go to one.

i think kids wouldn’t be causing so much trouble on streets if had somewhere to go.

rararachel recommended this topic and never really thought of it until now.

What do you think of this?

Yes, it is shameful that so many have been cut or their funding has been cut over the recent decade or so

lornaae if I had a big enough garage I would be happy to turn it in to a youth centre. We having a new housing development built local and in plans says a community centre but I bet nothing in that centre will be for kids to hang out only if it's 2 days a week.

Ann1984 hopefully they will do some things for young people, it's very frustrating when there's nothing for young people and no where to go especially in winter

Youth centres would be great for a bit of fun and to make new friends. But what would help the most to keep kids out of trouble would be some good discipline. There are many parents who are more like friends to their kids, rather than actually being a parent.

It's a no brainer Ann, kids need places to meet in safety rather than being driven too young into pubs, clubs etc because there is no alternative. My only worry is the stabbing culture of today and the safety of those running it, also innocent bystanders.

Lynibis yeah there is that worry. I am always worrying when my teenager goes out as see so many horrible videos or news reports. I have always explained never walk on your own phone always charged I just wish kids didn't have to grow up in this horrible world to was so safer years ago. Yeah there are things they could do like sports dance etc but today they just like hanging out but a safe place would be nice.

Ann1984 I know it is un-pc to say so but many of the 'bad' kids come from deprived backgrounds so the pastimes you mention are not an option for them as they cost so much money. I am sure youth clubs could get volunteers in for free to teach music etc and the kids could sign up for something that interests them. Local councils and government really don't seem to want to solve these problems as they are not relevant to them and their public school kids.

When kids join something of their own free will they are more likely to behave and not cause disruption, they learn how to behave in a group and unconsciously mimic the good behaviour they see. It costs pennies to print up a certificate or something for their endeavours and would give them something to work toward. Win win, they are occupied, parents less worried and not having to pay out.

Lynibis so true hopefully one day it's happens for them. I feel sorry for kids today they don't all won't to be bad kids but with nowhere to go or do,causing problems is only option for entrainment as they call it.

Ann1984 Peer pressure can be overwhelming at times. I used to take pride in being different, not running with the crowd. If they tried to get me to smoke I would decline saying, get lost, I don't want to get cancer or spend money on something with no return.
