Crisp packets need to be recycled separately, but can definitely be recycled. I saw a feature on BBC news recently about a household who does this for their street.

Pringles really should be producing packaging that can be recycled. There are also wide regional differences in the items that are accepted. Although, much of our recycling waste will just end up being dumped in a poorer country.

In an ideal world everyone would follow these set of rules but a lot don't care while still trying to help out. Plus, in various countries everything goes into the same rubbish bag although they have the different bins to recycle plastic, bottles and etc but they've not been that much of a success.

This thread reminded me of the video below.

Very true. Whilst living in Curacao, you were lucky to get a bin collection. Everything went into one bag! I think times have changed since I moved 10 years ago.

I have been recycling for almost 30 years and back in the day it took quite a lot of effort to do so. The councils have made this very easy these days. It really annoys me when people don't make the effort to separate their waste.

The one I find most annoying is caps like on shampoo bottles you can recycle the actual bottle but not the cap , I find that really stupid.

I knew all of this information. If you want to know if something is reycleable just look at the back of the packet and it will tell you. Councils also send out guides through post to let people know what they do and do not accept.

I mean pyrex is not breaking easily....I have a lot of them and none of them break for years....and I think they better because instead of using plastic boxes I use the same pyrex for 10-15 years.

Snap! I have 3 pyrex bowls and a jug that I have had for years. They may be scratched and aged, but I love them.

I only found out recently that glass candle jars can’t be recycled... so I’m slightly confused what you’re meant to do with them because I’ve had it drummed into me since I was young that you shouldn’t put glass in a normal bin because it can smash / cut someone / rip the bin bag...

Oops I‘m guilty of putting paper receipts in recycling. I retain receipts and ask for them in shops to use on apps like Shoppix

Same here. It’s so silly they aren’t recyclable as it’s paper, but it’s glossy so that’s the main issue. So you’d think the retailers could switch papers

Yes there are so many thing you can't recycle. It is a pain that we can't just have legislation to force all companies to use recyclables only. Yet there will be some things that require certain plastics etc and specific cases where we need to use certain materials. Bring back the old crisp packets though, I preferred the slightly not so fresh taste we used to get 30 years ago.

Black food trays that come with cooked meats etc. Apparently, the sorting machines have black conveyor belts and so the trays can't be recognised, causing a lot of extra work and jams. (I learned this only last year from someone who had worked in the industry)
