£2 Cap on Bus Fares Has Been Extended to the End of June .

In the News

The £2 cap for bus fares which was due to end on the 31st March has been extended . Being confirmed by Dept of Transport they have extended as the usage has brought more people to use the bus rather than cars to travel.

The promotion – launched at the start of the year – was due to expire at the end of March but will now run until June 30.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he wants bus travel to be “affordable for all”.

A three-month extension to funding introduced at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic to keep bus services running despite the drop in demand was also confirmed by the DfT.

The current deal runs until March 31 but operators were keen for a new agreement to be secured before the end of Friday as they are required to give six weeks’ notice about plans to cancel services or change routes.

That's good news. They do need to invest in public transport if they want people to stop using their cars. Our service has been appalling for the last 2 years but finally seems to be improving now. The council made stagecoach give two free weekends of travel here as the service had been so bad.

Midnightflower They're pushing to make cars a luxurious item where if drivers don't pay a ridiculous fee then they'll not be able to use it. And, with the 15/20 Minute Cities it'll also penalize drivers and people who may try to go beyond the limits imposed.

What fun!

That’s great news, let’s hope lots more people use them and it makes services more reliable as a result

I'm hoping to make use of this a few times and it will definitely be a few more times if it lasts until June. A huge saving over petrol. My car while super reliable is a large estate and doesn't get great mpg plus I like to take the bus on occasion and it eliminates the hassle of finding and paying for parking and you can enjoy the ride more not having to concentrate on the road. The only downer is the lack of capacity for carrying as much and having to work to a timetable.

stuartsmith544 - An excellent idea. I am a bus user anyway so I have nothing to gain from this promotion.

Don't really like using public transport, but sometimes it's alright.

I've never driven a car so I rely on reasonable bus fares.

Hopefully this will encourage more people to use public transport as petrol and parking fees are so high.

sarah4701 I cannot see any mention of it being available in Wales,Scotland and Northern Ireland so i guess it is just England based but I might be wrong.

Unfortunately this doesn't extend to Wales just England atm from what I've read.

Stagecoach have said it's down to the government etc.

Public transport atm in Wales is not very reliable and if they want people to use public transport they need to make it more reliable and also better working conditions too.

Well I took a £2 trip from Yeovil to Taunton it was nice to just enjoy the view. Coming back was not as good as the bus was packed. Luckily I got a seat ok. I'd bought an AMD Lenovo All in One C365 PC from the PDSA charity shop for £15 and had the inconvenience of carrying it on the bus. This was less than ideal but ok. Definitely one of the advantages of driving is having storage in the car although normally when I go to Taunton I use the park and ride anyway so I would have had to take the PC on the bus to get to the park and ride anyway.
