3-Ft Wide Hats for Kids to Maintain Social Distancing in Schools?

In the News

https://metro.co.uk/2020/04/28/children-given-3ft-wide-hats-help-keep-distance-go-back-school-china-12619392/

The photos of these made me laugh immediately but I could imagine how much the kids may enjoy wearing a propeller on their head

Something to try here?

😂 I can imagine kids having a lot of fun with that! As long as the hats are not heavy, and are in bright colours

looking at them again, the hats remind me of the scholar hats they used to wear a few centuries ago. Not sure why they needed those hats back then, unless they had to socially distance back then as well

If they are only 3ft wide in total (and it looks that way) then two kids would only be 3ft away from each before their blades touched.

0/10 for social distancing. Time for more maths kids!

Johnny Furthermore even if they were two metres wide it still wouldn't keep them two metres apart. For three reasons: 1. no allowance for thickness of body 2: unless the children were the same height one would be higher than the other. 3: There's no way to stop them meeting face to face / back to face or any other combination.☺

davidstockport We'll just have to make them large circular desks to wear all day, and widen all the doors!

Johnny Personally I think they need to look at things from a different perspective something like an old fashioned crinoline (but bigger) might do the trick. Image

I have an 'A' level in Maths and it provided nothing towards my future career. Art and design though encourages creativity and making those hats even bigger would be a brilliant engineering challenge! I suppose you could say they're learning some practical maths from the engineering.

Lynibis It's been done before in the 1850s or 1860s - They also prevent falling over when ice skating, Image

Lynibis You're right. No man has dared doing it again for over 150 years. Such was the scolding.

Johnny well women have been wearing trousers throughout the ages so I guess we can't complain!

This is a bit of a joke. Can't see this working anywhere, especially in overcrowded British classrooms. Health and Safety would also be all over this as one of the ends could go in someones eye. Space suits would work better 😷

yes it’ll definitely not work here, and knowing how kids are these days, there will be a game made up where the goal is to get the ends in the eyes!

Oh don’t they look cute though. Might be difficult for parents getting them to school especially if driving a small hatchback.
