7 Vaccines in the UK
Ask a Question
I read that we are currently on the third manufacturer of the covid vaccine. It would appear that the UK will eventually have covid vaccines from 7 different manufacturers.
Is this courting disaster or a good thing?
Not sure if mixing vaccines is a good thing to begin with. Perhaps the plan would be that the first two vaccines are from same manufacture. There are suggestions that a ‘booster’ will be needed come autumn/winter. This booster may well be from a different manufacturer. Considering the amount of vaccines needed and the length of time vaccines may be required, I feel that having a variety of vaccines will provide the best protection and ensure availability in the UK.
BlueEyesX yes, perhaps the idea is to minimise the risk of placing an order with only one manufacturer and then having supplies issues eg the Brexit fiasco.
It could also turn out when we know more that different vaccines are better for different age groups or some other group of people.
Grannyclock , yes it’s looking like that already with AstraZeneca, isn’t it? Hopefully with the 7 planned vaccines, they will be targeted and effective for whichever demographic they are specifically aim at.
