I escaped the teenage acne stage, I always had pretty good skin as a teenager and into my twenties but as ihit my 30's I get black heads and spots and my skin seems dull. Is this a hormone thing, an age thing, anyone else experienced anything similar?

What do you think of this?

Usually stress related, doctors can give you a cream called hydrocortisone cream which they recommend for all types of skin issues but it’s massively important this is not put on the face

My daughter has psoriasis and was prescribed this for her face. She had a stronger steroid for her body but I was told hydrocortisone was OK for her face as it's mild

You'd think you could trust your gp I'll certainly research this a bit more. It could be that for her it's so severe the benefits outweigh the risk but I'll ask next time we see her doctor. Thanks for bringing it to my attention

joannecroston I've been prescribed steroid cream (hydrocortisone) for eczema on my face before. There's a lower dose version that's for the face but they still tell you to use it very sparingly and not for more than a week at a time. It's cleared it up within a day or two though.

I had issues when i switched diet, as I was training more and the higher levels of testosterone from my high protein diet meant the imbalance to oestrogen, leading to elevated facial oils and blocked pores. And washing the face with water can make it worse, so I just use cotton pads and cleansers when the breakouts are at their worst

Hi ive had the same issue I swear by double cleansing but with gentle products- less alcohol perfume and no scratchy beads! Muslin cloth and warm not hot water. Try looking at something like simple and Paulas choice and invest in salicylic acid which dissolves the oils blocking pores. I personally avoided steroids it seamed to make things worse over time. And moisturise daily with a simple non comedogenic dont skip even if youre oily. If its hormonal discuss with GP. Also give it time and remember its always much more noticeable to you, others wont notice or be judging you. On a side note I tried every diet and not much helped other than the expected green veg more water however decreasing sugar helped a little bit. Best of luck xx

I'm in my 40's and I still get the odd spot and did suffer as a teenager. However, I do have oily skin so this won't help. On the bonus side though, having oily skin has kept me looking younger than my years, as opposed to having dry skin. So, I've had to suffer somewhere I suppose!

I had moderate acne as a teenager and was on the strongest drugs for acne which cleared it up.. I find now, I have a strict skincare routine which keeps my acne completely under control, but certain make up can make me break out (specifically full coverage, oily foundations) and I have hormonal spots around the time of my periods, so I use tea tree products directly on spots and that gets rid of them quickly... if you have them on your chin / around your mouth and / or at specific times of the month, it’s usually hormonal
