Disrespectful adverts from the past that would be banned today

Other

I am one of the first to complain about the woke society , but after viewing these adverts it even woke me

I did see something similar to this article on facebook but showing less adverts, so i searched and found more content that i have posted here

This has 51 old adverts from the US , some quite frankly that are very disturbing to say the least

It shows the bigotry that existed years ago and disrespect to women that people thought was normal

I know we have adverts from the past in the UK with similar content but some of these go way beyond acceptable in my opinion

Perhaps in the future they will look back and be shocked at how we think about certain subjects or advertise. It's hard to know what is offensive when you are immerged in the culture of today. It maybe how we glorify violence in movies or show sadistic behaviour in horror films with gory special effects. Maybe the treatment of animals in abbatoirs. There are lots of things we have acclimbitised to that perhaps they would be shocked by. It's clear from those past adverts that sexism and racism was acceptable and that white males were king in the USA. Many countries of today are still extremely sexist and racist across Asia and Africa.

BonzoBanana Yes B, at least the UK is learning lessons, the US is still stuck in the past regarding certain issues and the same with some Asian countries

telmel You do realize that times change?

They used to give babies cocaine to make them sleep and say that cigarettes made your chest better.

You sound definitely woke now, and that makes me sad.

Take the past as what it was and get on with the absolute crap we've got on TV atm.

TheChimp That was tongue in cheek TC about being woke

But some of those adverts of the past are definately eye openers

If they put any of them on TV imagine how many million of complaints there would be , probably riots in the streets too

Riots? I'd love to see that.

Who are these millions? There'd be more millions fighting against them tbh.

Check the figures about how many 'people of colour ' are in the UK against 80% of the white population..

I'm playing devil's advocate here.

telmel I'm looking at the same thing whether it's the US or the UK.

We all know what's going on here including LGBT. It's big companies wanting to make a dollar from the minorities.

Have you seen Sam Smith's recent performances? Should be banned without a disclaimer imo. If you don't find them offensive, you are definitely woke.

TheChimp I know TC , i despair with what's going on in the world sometimes

I was reading a story earlier about an 11 year old that drew a picture of a pig wearing a tie and dickie bow

One teacher called the parent and accused the child of drawing an inappropriate" picture , which it was clearly not, unless they grow on your chest , everyone is too sensitive nowadays including teachers

Some of the adverts are shocking. Particularly the love baby soft! Whilst the Coca-Cola one is just bizarre. Feed your baby soda so they'll be socially accepted as a teen?

Midnightflower It might explain the way some in the US are if they fed their kids soda as babies M
