Advice Please. Kindle or Tablet?
Ask a Question
OH's Kindle has broken, over-use and old age. Do we get another Kindle or go for a Tablet ready to replace laptop. Suggestions and recommendation as to choice and make would be appreciated. Thank you
Kindle was basic and only used for reading. Laptop, when it works, gets used for internet/emails etc occasionally reading most other things get done on his iPhone.
It depends what you use it for? Is it for mostly reading ebooks or Internet browsing, email etc? I like the Microsoft surfaces.
lilyflower i would go for tablet if needed for emails and browsing. My oh bought one yesterday 7 inch only 69.99 and has google play store
Definitely get a tablet.
You can always download the Kindle app onto it and you'll be able to do so much more besides.
Tablet but don’t go for cheap one as you will end up buying more expensive anyway and don’t buy Lenovo one ! So slow so annoying g bought it for my 3 y.o as we returned her kindle ( couldn’t stand it ) but this wasn’t great was ok but she decided she like apple more hahahah so we ended up with apple tablet
Tablet. I regret getting a kindle as I don't even use it. I read through my tablet or phone as its more convenient. Also tablet you can use it for other things aswell unlike a kindle. My kindles been lying around for over 2 years.
ClaireF1978 Ann1984 TheChimp loveglitches SalmaS Thanks, it seems to be a tablet. I/we will look into it tomorrow but if you have any suggestions on make/model fire away. Lenovo? that's my laptop never been trouble
Had the kindle fire one for children and was a mistake , Lenovo tablet also for children is not in use anymore as very slow, Better to invest in apple one as they are the best if you have apple phones and watches etc
I tend to just use my phone now although I use to have a tablet. My phone does have a 6 inch screen but I find this is sufficient.
definitely a tablet as it’s more functional. If you already have an iPhone then it’s easiest to get an iPad - have had mine for years and works as well as when I first got it
I would go with a kindle fire, which I am using to type this. It can be used exactly the same as a basic kindle but as a normal tablet too. I use it for banking, online shopping, taking photos etc. The only downside is that it is heavier than a kindle only, although mine is 10" and I assume the smaller 7/8" ones are lighter if to be used predominantly for reading, especially in bed.
Edit: I also have an ordinary small kindle for reading only which I use in bed as the page stays in portrait frame if you are lying on your side reading. With any tablet the screen will see saw between portrait and landscape depending on your position so when lying down script is at right angles to your head!
My Mum has a Lenovo tablet she bought from John Lewis a few years ago. She uses Zoom on it every week for video calls to take part in her choir practice. For what you have described, that would do the job. My other half has an iPad Mini 2 (quite old) and that is still going strong so you could consider the secondhand market. I think when you said Kindle, you meant a Kindle Fire which is just an Android tablet so some responders may have got the wrong impression. They are slightly restricted anyway as Amazon mess with the software on them.
I used to have an ipad mini 2 but when i bought my iphone, i didnt really use my ipad as much because it was pretty much the same software and spec as my phone. However, i might get a kindle near my birthday
Apple iPad. No contest. Best thing I have every purchased. (Do not recommend the ipad mini)
Depends what you use it for. I have a kindle fire that I can also use for searching the internet and downloads apps so I've not felt the need for a tablet
The kindle only serves to read where as a tablet you can do way more. Plus the kindles if you want to get a good screen you will be paying a hefty sum. An IPS tablet should not be over the top. If I had the money to spare an android over 9 inches with keyboard case and hdmi.
I have both and there is no comparison - the ipad wins hands down. I don't know the last time I used my kindle
It depends how much you read, I think lilyflower.
I have an iPad which has the kindle function, but I find it too heavy when reading, (which I do, a lot!)
I love my Kindle paperwhite. It’s also great for travel, holidays etc as you don’t need to be bringing your tablet to the beach. Once charged, it lasts ages too.
Thank you. He reads a lot, as in he could never carry enough books for a weeks holiday. He can decide over the weekend.
lilyflower Kindle all the way then !! For a big reader, he will appreciate the weight difference
Tablet definitely I have both and mi e is a kindle fire but it doesn't run on android like my tablet if its for reading you can download the kindle app from the play store so you get the best of both

At that price, it's worth a try. I hope it suits his needs. From your original description, it should!
