People Who Don't Drink?

Ask a Question

What do you think of people who don't drink? Do you find them boring? As one of them I find it difficult in social situations but it doesn't make me feel to start to drink, just don't like the flavour but I can see the point why people find it strange.

I don't drink and find alcohol the root of all evil. I don't go into pubs because my anxiety as not knowing what that drunk is going to do. The taste and smell 🤢🤢.

I don't drink a lot, I have the occasional bottle of Jamesons on the go, but that usually lasts me weeks with just a small measure in the evenings if I fancy it.

I do drink more on holiday and at Christmas though.

I am with Ann1984 on this one. Don't like the taste or the effect. I do not like carbonated drinks either so that rules out nearly all mixers. I have always found it strange that two of the things that cause the most misery for mankind, alcohol and drugs, have been around almost as long as man.

I find it sad that people need these things as crutches in social occasions. I have the odd Baileys as a treat, either with ice or in coffee, but not for the effect, just to enjoy as a one off.

Try as I may I just cannot understand why people deliberately set out to get drunk, feeling sick and ill and out of control and writing off the following day in order to recover from a hangover.

Lynibis completely agree with this, you would miss a wonderful sunny day if you are hangover but I respect people choices as long they respect mine.

GSM I know what you are saying. I respect people's choices in most things but sadly there are many people I do not respect at all, especially habitual drunks, abusers, rapists, drug addicts etc

I enjoy a good pub fight but can't get going until I've had 3 or 4 pints and a whiskey or two. I'd just be sitting in the corner minding my own business if I just had soft drinks and have a non-eventful boring evening. You definitely need alcohol to start an argument and get the fists and feet flying.

I have a friend who doesn’t drink alcohol and think it’s unfair if we’ve been out in a group for a meal and others order lots of wine and then split the bill!

That is a great reason for everyone to pay for what they order including food as some people eat more than others and order extras/sides willy nilly. It also creates resentment. I am surprised that your friend lets them get away with it... 🐞

I like a drink occasionally but i often think of the saying "People like a drink, they don't like a drunk". I have no issues at all if anyone chooses not to drink alcohol. It seems to becoming more socially acceptable with a lot more options on the market being alcohol free.

My OH is tea total. He hasn't touched alcohol is over 10 years. Doesnt effect his social life at all. I enjoy a few gins on a night out, I dont allow myself to get slathered tho, I know my limits & when to stop before things get messy.

I don't drink. I don't like the taste. Last drink I had was half a glass of prosecco at my friends wedding and that was only because she had bought it for me!

I don't mind people drinking, it's entirely their choice. I've never felt pressured into having a drink when I've been out with friends.

I used to drink in late teens/early 20's when going out, give up when expecting first child (now 31) and haven't drank since. I don't feel the need, but some friends think I'm totally odd, mainly because they are big drinkers.

I have not had an alcoholic drink for 20+years, over did it and we'll needed to stop. Don't miss it. I still go out and enjoy time with people that are drinking not that I particularly like the atmosphere in pubs and clubs but then I never have

🤣🤣🤣 this made me giggle! Truly this was exactly what I thought. I don’t drink mad and I never have hangover the next day but honestly after whole day with kids schooling, working from home and housework I deserve a glass of something to ease the pain 🤣🤣

Most of the people I know who don’t drink often don’t frequent in bars or pubs as it’s pointless. They might go for family meals earlier on in the day, but not for a drink up social

I wouldnt say boring, I would say it’s personal choice.. but I do feel slightly uncomfortable in a big group setting when one person isn’t drinking - usually due to pregnancy.. because they will remember all the stupid stuff you say and do 🤣

I used to drink a lot more alcoholic drinks, but these days I am pretty much tee total. I have the odd one to be social, but it's a rare thing these days. I am usually poring the drinks for guests and making sure they are having a fun time. Xx
