Aldi To Close Online Inc Special Buys & Wine

In the News

Well this is a shock! Aldi have just announced that they are winding down their special buys online and their home delivery to concentrate on opening more stores as they have 950 now and their target is 1000

So no more cheap wine, virtually queuing for egg chairs, air fryers, heated clothes airers and Kevin the Carrot!

They will start phasing it out it later on this year. Last week, Aldi reported its best ever Christmas with a 26 per cent rise in sales in December to £1.4 billion as shoppers tightened their belts.

What do you think of this? Will you miss it or did you just shop in store?

Not sure how I feel about it. There have been some very good special buys but..... the last couple of orders I made had problems with the items and, because they take soooo long to arrive, there was no way to replace them as they had long sold out. Perhaps they've had more than their fair share of complaints and decided to eliminate the negative reviews? I like a lot of their food options and their Christmas selection was really good with something different from the rest.

I only ordered a few times but felt it offered good value. Perhaps they feel their competitive advantage is in-store. Thought they could do quite well if it expanded further.

I don't buy much from Aldi online but as I don't drive it's very handy to have the option of getting items delivered. I think you find more stock and products online as well compared to in-store where it can be very hit and miss.

I've bought quite a few things from Aldi online. Mostly DIY and gardening stuff. It's a shame that the online delivery service will be stopped. Can't fault the quality of the stuff I have bought. I will really miss this service as I don't really shop in-store.

I've never actually ordered from Aldi online. I've looked online before but never had anything I needed.

I always try to shop in store, as I enjoy looking at the weekly 'bargains' etc. However, I love Aldi (and Lidl) but I am not as active as I was. It was nice to know that I could have had it ordered and delivered from online. Oh well - it's all about saving money I suppose, and opening new stores all over the place, will bring them more of that! What about those that can't get to the shops ?????

I've bought loads from Aldi online, it's easier than catching a bus it's a real shame as I think they'll lose a lot of customers, nit everyone is able to get to stores and then the biggest problem is stuff being in stock actually in the shops...Oh well time to look elsewhere.

This is disappointing ive order a few items from their online store, and been well chuffed with them and the price I paid. I just wish they’d start doing home deliveries as it would cost me £6 each way to my local store and I’m disabled so would be in a lot of pain walking around the store, but I hate missing out on so many in-store deals my friends n family get!! I think they’d get even more customers by doing home deliveries!!!

I think they've maybe looked at their clothing counterpart, Primark and realised they don't need to have an online option to be successful. Although for those who struggle to get out it will be a big blow.

This is a shame for the many people that use Aldi online, for me personally I only visit the shop for my groceries so won't affect me.

They will be use special buys as loss leaders, people visit the store and buy things they never intended. Crazy to offer them online.

Howmuch I don't think special buys are loss leaders generally, you can often find the same products for less on ebay. I placed my first ever Aldi online purchase recently and from the sound of it, it will be my last too. Delivery costs have spiked recently and probably Aldi online has become unprofitable possibly due to that plus as already stated special buys are a motivator for people to visit the store where they will buy more items, so doesn't make sense to offer them online really.

My order was well packed and promptly delivered.

Aaah noo I will miss this service. I've only used it once to buy my mum a mini food processor as they would have most likely sold out at our local Aldi.
