Can I Take Amazon to Court on This Matter?
Ask a Question
Amazon was running a campaign recently, get £100 gift card if you apply for that credit card, I applied and got approved. Now, they are not giving me the promised £100 instead they add a year membership on my account.
When I complained they said they will check if they can change the offer, now after waiting for few days, they are that offer ended in 20th and you are not eligible while I have screenshot of the offer on my account on 23rd of July.
Furthermore, they sent me an email saying that they CAN amend the offer and now they saying they meant, CANT.
Based on the screenshot and email can I take amazin to court?
I think I'd be fed up and disappointed but would end up accepting the £79 Prime subs .... to try to fight Amazon would surely be expensive in cash/time and stress!
I already have prime membership on my private account so it's no point to getting it on business too.
WindowShopper that was me and my scan reading! I thought they were making you a sort of fair offer but no ...you wouldn't want 2 Primes! I've never had cause t criticise their customer service I admit. It's a big step going to court ...maybe more 'discussion' towards a useful compromise would be far less stressful ... even a £50 GC ... or adding an extended Prime to your current personal one...via a code if they say they can't do it just yet?
Amazon are usually very good at Customer relations, keep badgering them and they may change their mind.
I also applied for the Card, and got my £100 Gift Card code emailed to me within half an hour of being accepted.
As for taking them to court, If it were me I'd not bother.
If they advertised that people would be given a £100 gift card if they applied for and were approved for a credit card, and you applied for and was approved for that credit card. I suggest you report it the Advertising Standards Authority.
Advising Amazon of your intentions before reporting might do the trick.
As BORDERJOE said the cost and stress to fight them in court is probably not worth it (and they know it) but they're almost definitely flouting advertising regulations, by trying to foist anything other than the advertised £100 gift card on to you.
Advertising Standards Authority, that's a very sweet advice i am going to Google about it, I have 30 seconds clip which I recorded before applying for the card as I had my doubts on the deal.
WindowShopper good for you ... that's similat to what I do when I accept offers online. ...tho I just do screenshots ...never thought of a recording ...great idea!
As I have seen similar numerous times on my own account, as have probably thousands of others, I don't think they can argue it wasn't advertised. (although they might probably try).
If the worst comes to the worst, hopefully you haven't paid upfront, you could cancel your prime membership on your non-business account so at least you could use the one year prime membership they offer you.
I hope you don't forget to cancel the business card before charges kick in. You might possibly find the Amex card becomes your default way of paying for Amazon purchases, probably worth checking and switch back if it does.
From experience with these large companies I usually find that any deals or offer are usually tied up with get out clauses and Terms & Conditions that are not in your favour, that you won't necessarily see unless you go looking and even then they are difficult to find, I suspect Amazon is no different . Not really worth challenging legally as I think they are in a far better position financially to defend themselves, your best bet is to try and negotiate what you can from them and put it down to experience, as others have said Customer Service is usually very good
Thanks for that, may I suggest here if you can put voice messages as well or a vedio may be to help people with special needs, dyslexic, ADHD etc
WindowShopper if you are dissatisfied with customer services and they can't resolve the situation then email the head of amazon. I found that your email gets passed onto a specialist team who not only compensate you but resolve all the issues you are having. Much easier than the courts. If you can't find the email address, let me know and I'll send you the email for the specialist team.
