Ancient Monster Penguin is Largest Discovered and Weighed as Much as a Gorilla

Other

I don't know if anyone remembers that old advert 'pick up a penguin' referring to the chocolate bar ?

Well this was one penguin you would never have been able to pick up

It came from New Zealand, was around about 57 million years ago and It weighed as much as a gorilla

Imagine how much fish it must have consumed

And lets hope it didn't skate on thin ice

Fish was probably bigger then too. Hopefully the ice was also thicker to keep it up.

New Zealand had some crazy animals in the past and many of them co-existed with the timeline of humans. Haast's Eagle was one of them.
