Announcing Lockdown Instead of Going into Lockdown?

Ask a Question

Can someone explain the moronic decision of mentioning a lockdown on a certain date instead of immediately?

If we are to go into a lockdown ( I know some agree and disagree) but why wait instead of taking action?

its causes panic buying and people ramming pubs, having parties and gatherings.

Is the virus having a mini break until the 5th Nov?

What do you think of this?

If you had listened to those speaking of this you would realise it is not easy to grind a country to a halt at an hours notice. Workers need to finish up what they are midway through, restaurants need to use up fresh stock. There are many reasons for a few days notice being needed and as this second lockdown is several weeks late I don't think a few days will make a difference, so no, covid isn't on a mini break and lockdown is to make a difference in a minimum of 3 weeks time.

But when you do this you encourage more panic buying and places like wetherspoons to offer 99p pints for 3 days to encourage more people to go the pub to spread the virus. It encourages people to have parties and gatherings like its some sort of last supper before lockdown. Yes they could have closed it down earlier, do the announcement on the Saturday and shut it all down today not Thursday.

You're so right that the virus won't take a break between now and 5th Nov. That's true. What's also true is that people need some time to prepare for the lockdown, for example sorting out a loan, migrating their job to online or shopping for Xmas gifts before nonessential shops close.

Ridiculous, but the big question is...Why we did not have a 2 weeks lockdown instead of the silly tier system, which did not work and it got us to 4 weeks lock down and it did not started yet, but they already talking about extending it?

Economy and the thieving government. If maybe they put lives before money, we would be in a different situation.

I hear what you are saying but what about al the people who have adhered to the rules up until now? Would you stop them requesting and collecting prescriptions or dealing with necessary matters before we shut down? It also gives the older generation time to get a decent shop of essentials and not being without. I honestly don't begrudge them that.

Most of us have been able to shop, very carefully so it's not going to be a massive hardship. Sadly, the panic buying will happen anyway with very little guilt but, at least, the providers are not going to get caught out and most things will be available.

Well pharmacies wont close so wont make a difference, also what necessary matters would need to be done as its non essential shops that are closing.

Getsome I think you missed my point - the elderly are quite stressed about going out anyway. If they don't have time to get themselves sorted they will not go out once the lockdown starts. (I collected a prescription for an elderly couple this morning and their anxiety was tangible) People need time to plan. The mindless and selfish will remain the same, the pandemic didn't create them, they were always this way. The delivery slots have gone absolutely nuts so they would definitely have problems on that front.

sunny101 People have had time to prepare and change habits since this has been going on since Feb/March.

sunny101, Thank you for this. Such a sensible and measured perspective. You're so right.

kfe202 If more people thoughtfully stocked up a few items per week and kept this to only the things that are essential in their household, we wouldn't have some people going without and then you wouldn't have to wait 4 days to go into lockdown.

I agree I'm sure there is a better way of doing things. The cases actually falling here and 25 other places at the least do something to stop the mad drinking before lockdown

Is it really another lockdown though? Loads of businesses still open, many I know still at work including myself, we are working business as normal. It seems like it isn’t being taken seriously this time around and things just carrying on as normal 🤯
