Anybody Else Feeling a Little Down?

Other

I'm not sure if it's the thought of an enforced months break from work, or the weather, or a mixture of both, but I woke up this morning with a sense of impending doom and despondency.

I'm sure I'll snap out of it soon enough, I'm just wondering if anyone else is struggling at the moment?

I am, it's been a tough couple of years and a few weeks ago, because like you I thought I would snap out of it. I didnt, after feeling incredibly sad for months. I admitted I needed help and started anti depressants. It takes time to get in your system. I woke up this morning and didn't want to get out of bed, it was just too much effort .....what was the point. Hopefully things will get better soon. Sorry I should be more upbeat and offer advice and support, but can't at this time.Just responded to say you are not alone in feeling down.

beccatavender Sorry that you are feeling this way. It's good that you got help. The important thing is to keep talking and share how you feel. It doesn't help that the majority of topics revolve around the current situation - there's only so much we can take. x

beccatavender Really sorry to hear you are also struggling, I think in comparison to what it sounds like you are going through I am not doing as bad as I thought. As you say the Anti depressants do take a while to kick in, but well done in realising you have a problem and facing it head on. I hope tomorrow is a better one for you.

I hope today is a better day for tou beccatavender. The antidepressants will help to improve your mood once they are established in your system. Sending you a hug x

Yes I think the prolonged changes and the dark nights have definitely had an effect on my mood. I also think there's a lot of anger and frustration regarding the people who aren't playing by the rules. I am at the stage that I don't want to listen to all the tv reports and opinions. I could happily stick my fingers in my ears. (you probably know what I mean 😉 ) Get the headphones on and enjoy your favourite music. It's worked for me. Just try not to sing along...... I've heard many mutterings of 'it's a no from me' and 'next'.

sunny101 Apart form the press conference on Saturday evening I tend to avoid news nowadays, just too depressing. The music could work, although I fear people may think I'm torturing cats, such is my lack of a decent singing voice.

Bad things and times happen , maybe because this is national , indeed international we may think its Ok to feel down ?

I hate it , I also hate the colder weather and shorter days and a recent injury which means I can barely walk .. What should we do ?- look past it as I do . Look at times beyond it .

My favourite day of the year December 21 st , why ? its the shortest day of the year and it gets lighter after that date (although you don't notice it for a few weeks)

.

Perhaps if we had lived through the second world war (as many of our grandparents did) and suffered those privations we may feel that what we are going through now is a cakewalk in comparison .

Check out the History channel , loads of series on life at home during the World wars . They got through it without the internet and central heating and with starvation rations often without sanitation or running water .

Count your blessings is often ignored these days (especially by the "entitled" generation ) , but without our grandparents and great grandparents suffering those far worse times we wouldn't be here now ?

Golfforall Indeed, in the grand scheme of things I've really not got it too bad, compared to past generations. It's just trying to remember that fact.

I know its easier said than done but try find a sense of achievement in a simple task or new learnings,

i struggled with the last lock down and hid away from the world, daily I would write a small list to try and achieve something mostly little things like tidy the cupboard, vacuum clean reorganise

it was the point of being able to cross something off of the list that I could look at and think well I did achieve this today

Gems That sounds like a plan.

The thing that bothered me last lockdown was all the people who said they were learning a new language or skill - I was just happy to make it day to day with most of my marbles intact.

I'll try and set some simple goals and not beat myself up if I've not learnt Swahili, Cross Stitch or advanced motor mechanics by 2nd December.

I've been doing alright job wise etc but had my moments. I think most people have struggled at some point and nobody should feel ashamed to admit that. I've personally found that a change of scenery has helped a lot. I joined online business networking and watched DJs on Twitch, meeting loads of like-minded people on both. I also got involved in a quiz with one friend of a friend who does it with his university friends, none of which I previously met! Obviously those solutions won't suit everyone but could be adapted. Just talking about it like you have on here is better than nothing. I hope you feel more positive tomorrow but come back and say if you don't or at least tell someone, somewhere. 👍🏻

Dennab Many thanks for your kind words.

I think I'll be giving zoom and facetime a thorough workout over the next few weeks.

I'm lucky in that I have a couple of dogs who are going to be so fed up of long walks in the woods over the next month they'll be counting down the days until lockdown is over.

blacklabrador We're all human and somebody is always here 🙂

Now I'm guessing these dogs you speak of are a certain breed. Ours took himself out for a walk on several occassions 🙄 Leaving the gate open? Not guilty...

Enjoy the Zooming and don't forget to unmute yourself. Watching people mess up with that is entertainment in itself 😁

Sorry to hear you're feeling down. I think we all have times where we feel like this, maybe more so this year though as it's been a tough one.

I tend to keep myself busy when my mood gets low, find myself stuff to do. Just giving my mind something else to focus on seems to help I think, even if it's just something small.

Hope you feel better soon.

angelik I think the fact that it's rained nearly every day for about the last month here isn't helping either.

At least in the summer you could sit in the garden or walk around the local park.

Have to say a heartfelt thank you for replying.

I was in two minds about posting the original comment as it felt a little like pity seeking, especially when we are all going through a hell of a year.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day, for all of us.

Just try to think beyond the present . December 22nd will be a good day as it will be lighter than the 21st . Extrapolate that to all things and you can believe a better time is just beyond the corner you can see at the moment .

A bit better than I was actually, but it goes in spells, certainly know what you mean ,often everything seems pointless, I think Gems has a good point, but they have to be small things or you feel more of a failure than ever! And Geoff is right about 21st of December...

blacklabrador, I hope you are feeling a bit lighter today? I think everyone has periods like you have described. It’s good to acknowledge your feelings. You are lucky you have dogs - they are great for providing routine (and love) when you can’t be bothered. Today will be a good day x

I am afraid you are not on your own my mood goes up and down with everything that is going on at the moment. Please keep talking or reaching out to people we will get through this together, don’t keep quiet because that makes it worse there are always people out there that may be in a similar position or have been through it. If you start feeling worse do seek professional help there is no shame in that. Take care ❤️

Morning I have just had a google and on the NHS website there is an A-Z of Charities and organisations to get Mental health support

the world has really changed and in my opinion the umbrella that covers MH has broadened over the years, I remember when I first started my job 13 years ago to get tagged with mental health issues in a safety critical role was something to fear, but now everything is a lot more open and accepting.

I hope this helps someone x stay safe and remember to the world you may only be one person but to one person you may be the world

Nice one Gems This is another one that was available earlier in the year but even more relevant now and worth a look blacklabrador. I've shared it as a freebie as it will be easier to find and won't be lost in the chat list.
