Has Anyone Developed Hay Fever as an Adult?

I first developed hay fever last year. I hadn’t realised how debilitating it could be until then. I take an antihistamine every day but it doesn’t really help that much.
What medication can you suggest? Has anyone had the preventative vaccination? Does it help?
Any advice gratefully received!
I started when I was 28 in 2001 when we had the foot and mouth outbreak I take fexofenadine 120mg that I have to get from my doctor as you can not buy them over the counter
Had you tried the over the counter medication before your GP prescribed you fexofenadine tara73ziva? I may need to speak to my GP.

I was 21 when I got it. A young adult. My mum got it in her 60s, but very mild. My dad managed to get eczema in his late 50s! I find antihistamine don't work and make me dowsy, even the non dowsy ones. I swear by beconase nasal spray. that's the only thing that works for me.
Isn’t it strange how you can suddenly develop things as an adult?! The antihistamines also really knock me out, I’m glad you said that. I will give Beconase a try. Thank you.
I was 9 when I got it my dad was an adult though. I've never found anything that works for more than a year or two so I just get nagged for sneezing too much
Like you I didn't really appreciate how much people could suffer with hayfever until I developed it (late 20s). It was so bad a couple of years ago I broke out in hives & terrible asthma symptoms. I was prescribed fexofenadine from doctor. ( I think its perscription only) & steroids. So now I start loratadine antihistamine when the weather starts to change & make sure I'm on top of using my brown inhaler. I can still feel bunged up & sneezy tho. My MIL swears by the nasal sprays too.
My GP mentioned to me at the time they were seeing an increase in people suffering from pollen. Likely due to the higher rates we get each year.
tara73ziva said she is on this medication too. I think I may have to request some from the GP. I hate having to contact them at the moment though as they have enough on! I might try the nasal spray first.
gerrykelly25 I understand but I would just call them, because if your symptoms get worse it's very possible you'd end up with an infection & probably having to call them anyways.
I forget when I started getting it (that long ago) but still an adult. Each year I take a different off the shelf medication (as last years choice does not work) that for the most part does what it needs too. Still get sneezes and itchy eyes but it's bearable with those meds.
That’s a good tip thank you ch7leach. Maybe that’s why mine doesn’t appear to be working at all this year.
I take loratadine at night to try catch it before morning. But it’s been high this year and it’s the lethargy that gets to me and bad coughing. But recently had a sinus infection over triage via phone from doc as I was thinking I was suffering worse with the hayfever needing a stronger anti histamine. Worth a call coz as someone else mentioned I got beconase sinus spray as well as a three day med course and it’s been like day and night.
It’s a good job you spoke to your GP or you would have tried to struggle on with the infection. Yes, I think I’ll give them a call. I can’t carry on like this all summer. Thanks
Fortunately not. My friend gets it really bad and her face swells up and eyes look red and she can hardly breath... She has local honey apparently buying it frm a local source helps reduce the allergy
Yes I heard that so have just bought some. Anything is worth a try even though I’m not keen on honey!
I had it bad as a kid and then it seemed to disappear in my teens, but it came back with a vengeance in my 20s. I find being in polluted cities doesn’t help. A nice trip away, mainly to the coast, usually helps
