Anyone Else Who Doesn't Celebrate Valentine's Day.

Ask a Question

My husband and I don't celebrate Valentine's day. Anyone else who don't feel that celebrating it is a must?

I'm happy with flowers and chocolates any day of the year 😉

What do you think of this?

We don’t celebrate anything from birthdays to anniversary if we given money we always end up giving to kids because nothing better then seeing them smile then buying something or given something we never going to use

👍 Giving usually leads to more happiness than when you buy something for yourself.

I totally agree with you. I’m happy anytime of year to get flowers from hubby. We don’t need to be told when to celebrate our love and respect for each other.

Valentine's Day? Yuck. No, thanks. I'm all for romantic gestures and don't like the idea of being told when to celebrate love.

A bit sad.. Never had a need to, never had a valentine. Always been been caring for people in end of life palliative care that I never had the time to have anyone in my life.

You do an amazing job that many people would not be able to do. I'm sure it is tough but also rewarding.

Zuharah it certainly is. But it what it is and I can't grumble. It's a pleasure to make every moment a comfortable and a memorable one!

Although we have always bought each other cards in the past, this year we haven't, as we didn't want to risk going to the card shop! It seemed a small price to pay to ensure we didn't catch anything that could kill us! Having said that, we know that we love each other and don't really need a 'special day' to tell each other so, so we might use this as a catalyst to stop buying valentine's cards for good.

I feel the same about all the so called special days, mother, father, grandparents etc. No one should need reminding to show appreciation to loved ones. My boys bring me flowers every time they visit or cook for me if I visit them.

Imagine all the trees we would save if we stopped all this tosh.

Lynibis Yes, it's just a money spinning exercise by card shops (and not just card shops) trying to make us feel guilty about not caring for someone on day 'x' when in fact we care very much for them - all the time.

Definitely not wort risking your life for a card. It is nice to get a card sometimes but there are lots of other ways to tell people that you love them, any time of the year.

We don't celebrate Valentines day. We also don't buy each other birthday, Christmas or anniversary presents or cards. My husband shows me that he loves me throughout the year with all the little things that he does, I don't need one special day. Plus I would rather save the money and put it towards something more important!

We don’t buy cards or presents but we will have a nice meal (hopefully) tonight sitting at the table instead of in front of the tv as we have got in the bad habit of doing this lockdown.

Always nice to have a nice meal. We don't have a separate dining room, so dinner is normally in front of the TV. Come to think of it, it is actually a bad habit. It would be good to sit and talk over dinner like I did with my family growing up.

I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day as it’s just a commercial con. Prices elevated and repackaged

We don’t celebrate it, sometimes my OH surprises me but we both feel it’s a waste of money as the flowers and chocs are ridiculously priced for it.. when they are on sale tomorrow morning will be better 🤣

🤣 That's exactly what I do after every "special day" or celebration. So much cheaper to buy things when the celebration is over.

Years ago, my husband and I agreed that we wouldn't buy into the commercialisation of Valentine's Day, the pressure to be romantic on a particular day, when the cost of 💐, chocolates all go up.

We do buy each other gifts, when we see something the other would like, a book you know your partner will like, opening a bottle of wine when they have had bad day and just being there when times are tough, that's love!

Totally agree (except that I don't drink wine 😊 ). It is really nice to receive something your partner has bought for you because they know (or hope) that it will make you happy and not just because they feel that they should (because of Valentine's day).

We normally have a meal out, but haven’t done that in ages. Every day is like valentines anyway 😊

A meal out is always nice. Every day should be like Valentines. Doing things, saying nice things or even just genuine smiles for the ones we care about, shows that we love and appreciate them.

21 years married. Haven’t ‘done’ Valentine’s Day in 20 years. However my husband went shopping for groceries today and came back with a chocolate orange for me. Just because he knows I like them. Now that’s love.

We didnt do anything, it’s not like we need to make extra time for each other, we spent enough time together already this past year by him working from home 🤣

I imagine a huge percentage of the population doesn't celebrate Valentine's, namely those of us who are single!

It wouldn't have bothered me to be alone but my son insisted I share their day and got me to choose what we ate (he is ex chef). He even bought me, his wife and son chocolate and after dinner we watched a family film, Call of the Wild. Lovely film if you are a dog lover.

I couldn't have wished for a more lovely day.

Zuharah thank you so much for saying such a kind thing. I have two loving caring sons and I must admit do feel very proud of how they have turned into wonderful family men despite us having an abusive husband/father and raising them mainly alone.

Lynibis You are most welcome dear. It sounds like you have done an amazing job despite the difficulties you have faced. I know how hard it can be as I am currently (and have been for many years) in a similar situation to the one you were once in ❤️
