Anyone Else Notice Hidden Messages in Game of Thrones? Quiz question added

Other

I am currently watching again and have seen so much more this time around. Although it is fantasy I can see George R. R. Martin took many events from real history and can't help thinking he was making a point, either that or it's pure coincidence.

There are shades of gladiator games, genocide (Pol Pot, Hitler), dictators, Spanish Inquisition, cult religions, patricide, regicide, witches doing the burning rather than being burned, even Julius Caesar's death. Good try George, but no one heeds the lessons of history, do they?

I haven't watched it yet. I like to wait until the full season is finished. I hate watching one a week. Is it good? I need to look out for the hidden messages

Hello kate1310 I think you may be confused with House of Dragon the new series which is a prequel to Game of Thrones. I have watched the first series of HOD as it was out about 2 years ago, they are now showing series 2. Like you I do not like watching weekly so that is why I am watching GOT at the moment, they do mention lots of bits about their predecessors in it. I will then watch the whole series of HOD. It is good but it took a while to get used to it at beginning of first series, new characters, new settings etc but it soon had me hooked. Matt Smith (a previous Dr. Who) has a lead role and is very good.

If you haven't seen GOT they play it over and over on Sky Atlantic if you have it.

Never watched one episode, I wouldn’t bother now either. Especially people said the ending was rubbish after spending hours of their life watching it.

LL81 I must admit it didn't live up to expectations but the journey was well worth it. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. At the time no recording facilities so I watched weekly and it was the highlight of my viewing. The theme music alone would give me goosebumps and I was so excited. The only other programme that made me feel like that was The Last Kingdom.

The handmaid's tale is the same. Everything in it has actually happened not in the same way as on screen but in someway way or another

Not watched any of it, neither has my partner, our daughter has seen bits of it..

My partner's Niece & her family from Sheffield who moved back to Northern Ireland play the Fazakerley family in this series!

janphoenix51 just for that reason I would be watching it lol. It is a brilliant series and very complex with various kingdoms vying for the ultimate throne.

My uncle in laws brother is Brendan Gleeson, also from Ireland but our side of the family doesn't know his side, although I am very close to my aunt.

Unless George R R Martin has studied English history (he is American), his references are either inspired, coincidence or knowledgeable. I am nearly at the end of all 8 series and last night one of the characters said this to the Dragon Queen: All it takes is one man with a crossbow, he will see your silvery hair and know that one well placed bolt will make him a hero, the man who shot the conqueror.

If anyone knows which king this happened to in real history reply with your answer and I will let you know later today.

I don't think anyone wants to know but the answer is Richard I (the Lionheart). If you want to know how he died you can google.

martinlufc5637 I am so glad someone else loved it. I am nearly at the end now but have series 2 of House of Dragons to look forward to.

So many actors I forgot were in it like Ian McShane, Jerome Flynn, Jonathan Price, Alfie Allen (son of Keith, brother of Lily) Iain Glen, Sean Bean, Liam Cunningham etc.

But my favourite is Peter Dinklage whose acting is superb. He deserved an Oscar for his part in Cyrano.
